FHO Surgery (Femoral Head Ostectomy)

Has anyone's doodle had to have FHO surgery? My Goldendoodle Dazi is almost 7 months old and has been having trouble. I took her to the vet and the Dr did xrays and she has severe hip dyplasia. She is having FHO surgery on the right hip wednesday. The surgeon says this is the best thing for her instead of a full hip replacement. She is in a lot of pain and I hope this is going to help her. She will have the left side done after she has healed up from the right side. I sick with worry and wondering if anyone else has gone through this and how is the recovery for them. I hate this for my baby. I cant stand to see her in pain.

So glad to see that Dazi is doing so well and I can really relate to what you went through to get her to this stage. Boris was diagnosed before Christmas with OCD which is a condition with a genetic component and he needed surgery on both shouders which he had within two weeks of diagnosis. I was lucky that I had insurance but also had a less than helpful breeder. He is now playing and running normally again without any pain or stiffness and even though the surgery was palliative in nature and not a cure he has built muscle in his shoulders were none existed  due to atrophy over several months which had gone unnoticed . Hydrotherapy rehab work and massage has made a huge difference and we are now three months post surgery.  It is truly heartbraking to watch our pups in pain and even worse when breeders are unscrupulous in their dealings with such matters.  Dazi is lucky to have you and Boris is lucky to have me. I dread to think what happens to other puppies who are not so fortunate. Of course we are lucky to have them too as they are so much part of our families and loved dearly.
