Well, I woke up feeling doodle mommy guilt this morning. Last night about 8pm (the "bewitching hour" around here with kids!), I'm in the kitchen and see Luxie zoom out of the laundry room  with a sock in her mouth. Before I could even cross the room she swallowed it right in front of me!  I wasn't sure what to do, but had read on this site about obstructions, so I was freaking out. She's only 19 pounds and it was a HUGE sock! I don't know how she could possibly swallow a dry sock so fast! I decided to call the vet (sure that no one would answer at 8 pm), and amazingly my vet answers the line. He had me give her some hydrogen peroxide, which worked  amazingly fast, but it broke my heart to watch her!  Not only did the sock come up, but some bark, plastic, and another SOCK!  Oh my gosh, I feel awful!  Where did she get all that stuff?? Anyways, she's awake and fiesty this morning, but I've sure learned my lesson. I think I will buy that Pet Insurance today, and there will be a family meeting about keeping stuff off the floor!

The vet had me give her 2 teaspoons and told me to repeat it in 10 minutes if she hadn't thrown up by then. She started vomiting within just two or three minutes, and it lasted about 20 minutes. It was pretty hard to watch...she was clearly miserable! She is 19 pounds, and the dose seemed to be based on her weight. She was pretty good about drinking it...we just held her chin up and slowly poured it in her mouth. We now have a gate across the laundry room entry in case anyone forgets to close the door again. She is already restricted to the family room and kitchen with gates. Hopefully this will prevent anymore episodes! The vet did say that she is highly likely to do it again if given a chance. Thanks for all the good thoughts!
