Hi All,
I was just wondering what alternatives there are for flea medication because we want to stop using topical medication that you squeeze onto their backs. We are considering Sentinel but need to have heart worm testing and unfortunately we can't get to the vet until next month.
Are there anything out there else besides Sentinel and Comfortis? Maybe natural remedies? I need something safe to be around since we are expecting.
thank you all ahead of time! :)

Why are topical flea preventives not safe?
i heard they weren't good to be around if you are pregnant
Congratulations!
thanks Nancy! :)
My vet changed us about a year ago from Trifexis to ComboGuard which I think is a generic form of Trifexis. Whatever it is, no fleas and it also is for heart worm and intestinal parasites. Pill form as well.
oh thank you Nancie! I will look into that and ask my vet about it as well!
thank U Rosemary. I thought I had heard some bad reviews on Trifexis before but maybe it's better now. Since you seem to have no issues with it I will look into it as well :)
I use Frontline Plus, which isn't what you are looking for, but I just wanted to say congratulations on the baby :) I always forget we have some young'ins on DK :) LOL
AWWW Thanks so much Laurie!!! xoxo
Give Fudge & Vern a big smooch for me! Hope Vern's diet is going well :)
Oh, I know how you are feeling. I don't like to put insecticides on my dogs either, but I do it anyway because the alternatives are worse. BTW, Sentinel is for worms, not fleas and ticks. It is internal and Frontline or Advantage are external. My dogs get the worm medications once a month (all types of worms in one medication) and the Frontline Plus just during the tick season. You can stop the topical meds when they are not needed, but if you stop the heartworm medications, you have to be retested before starting up again. So, it is best just to never stop them. Heartworm is terrible, as is Lyme Disease. I won't take a chance on either of them.
