This morning I was rubbing Callie's belly and found a flea, marching bold as brass across her stomach (this is the thing that always enrages me about bugs - they always walk around like they belong). We hadn't been outside yet, so it had to have either been on her all night (the cleaning lady was at my house yesterday so I don't think it would have come from the carpet or the bed (ick)). I didn't find any more fleas on Callie and I went ahead and gave her her frontline, even though she wasn't due to get it until Saturday. She hasn't been particularly itchy, and I don't see any red bite areas.

Could my dog and house be completely infested???

It usually takes a little time for the house to get infested, but where there is one flea, there are more, and one flea can produce millions of eggs. The larva also remain dormant in rugs, etc. until vibrations from vacuums, movement, etc., along with carbon dioxide from living creatures cause them to emerge.
If Callie has been on Frontline right along and isn't itchy, I would not be too concerned about an infestation. Frontline Plus will break the flea's life cycle.
Wash all bedding, hers and yours, and vacuum again. Wear white socks while you vacuum, and watch your feet. If there are any fleas, you will see them. Borax in your vacuum bag (if there is one) will help kill anything that gets vacuumed up. Vacuum under all the sofa cushions, too.
Hope this helps, and hope you don't see any more fleas.
Goodness, Karen, you sound like General Sherman. But I guess it's all necessary. Who knew about the Borax. I bought some in the spring to ward off mildew. I put it in a spray bottle to use on the porch cushions. Now I think I'll vacuum some up when I get the chance. Good luck Frannie and Callie.
I still have my "flea inspection" uniform from my flea infestation in 2004...white scrubs & white socks. You cannot imagine how crazy I was...well, maybe you can, lol. I think my kids were planning an intervention. I don't know if I will ever fully recover from it, although I did get a nice new mattress out of it.
I once had fleas myself. I moved into an apartment at school where apparently a cat resided before us. What a nightmare. The resident bug expert at the college identified the culprits for me and we had the exterminator twice. The bites itched for months.
I still have scars on my feet from those flea bites...almost six years later.
I would go into the bathroom in the a.m. to shower, and see a bite on my stomach. I would run back into my bedroom, throw back the covers, and there would be a flea. I would feel a sudden sharp itch on my foot, pull off my terry cloth slipper, and there would be a flea. I am itching just remembering it.
Could you dress JD in the "uniform" and take his picture for the "Doodles At Work" slideshow? Jack, CFI (certified flea inspector).
LOL- Dr. Doodle, flea inspector. Wouldn't that be cute?
SOOOO cute, but please don't cover JD's cute doodle nose with a scrub mask!
I am ALL over this. Thanks for the tips. My sister is currently infested - she's had her house and yard bombed twice and her dogs have NEVER missed a dose of their preventives so I'm sure I'm jumping to panic.

Question - I don't have a vacuum bag - I have one of those cylonic/bagless types of vacuums (my sister is dying - she has an oreck and keeps having to vacuum and throw out $20 bags). Do I need to do anything special with the dumpings?
Yes, empty the vacuum outside of your home into bags with borax in them, and seal them up good, just in case.
Oh, and Frannie, vacuum your car, too.
Maybe your sister could just put Borax in the vacuum bags?
