Researching diatomacoeus earth, food grade, has been very eye opening.

It kills fleas and ticks, it is safe, you can sprinkle it on your dog and their bedding and it will not harm them

I always hated putting the Frontline on my dogs and now have ordered and recieved. It also kills other bugs.

I live in Florida and we have lots of critters. I ordered it on Amazon and it was pretty cheap compared to Frontline.

Please research it and you will really be suprised at all it does. I am going to sprinkle it around the kitchen cupboards too, it kills roaches, which can be a problem down south.

right now I don't have any plants in my backyard, but kinda want to set some "slug traps" and see how many of those guys are chilling in my yard.  :)

Slugs transmit Lungworm which are a serious problem in affected dogs.

I didn't know that, Nicky! Thanks for the info, important to know!

That's why I use Advocate (Advantage Multi) as it covers Lungworm, as it is so wet here we have a huge slug problem and consequently have to protect against this particular parasite.

how do they transmit lungworm?  Do the dogs have to eat a slug or just come in contact with their slime trail?

From what I just read, they have to consume or inhale the larvae, which they can do by sniffing, licking or eating the slugs, or the slug trails. Snails transmit it, too.

According to the vet here puppies sometimes eat them and that's how they are transmitted....a yuk thought.

I find slugs in Benders poop but never see them anywhere else in the yard.  Should I get him tested for lungworm?  Also, do slugs live in grass?  I don't know where these slugs are coming from :/

Most of the info I can find is from the UK...seems that it's become a big problem there. Here's one link: http://www.bluecross.org.uk/1752-99849/dog-owners-are-you-lungworm-...

Joanna, it appears there are preventatives for lungworm, maybe you already use one of them?

And besides destroying your plants, they are about the most disgusting looking creatures on God's green earth, IMO. They make my flesh crawl.

Joanna, Zoe & Bender I would check that the wormer meds you are currently using covers Lungworm

we are not on any wormer medication.  Our Vet did tell us about sentinel during the last visit for flea prevention and heartworm but he didnt think we needed wormer medication due to the area we lived in.  I will ask him about it again.

He doesn't have any of those symptoms from Karens link.

i just dont understand where these slugs are coming from...always just inside his poop.  Maybe ill try that beer thing too.
