This is Dexter. He is 2 years old, weighs 65-70 lbs, and is in danger of being euthanized if DRC cannot find a foster for him ASAP.

His owners have no time to train or exercise him, and no tolerance for the kinds of behaviors you would expect from a big 2 year old doodle puppy who is kept crated 80% of the time, has had no training, and gets no exercise. He has some resource guarding issues and is too rough with the elderly toy Poodle in the home.

Surely that doesn't warrant him losing his life, but that is what the owners say will happen if we cannot take him.

DRC is happy to take him, but we have been swamped with rehomes in the past two weeks and we do not have an available foster right now.

He is currently located in Stroudsburg, PA, on the PA/NJ border. We are looking for a foster home within 5 hours and will assist with transport.

Foster requirements for Dexter: Experienced, savvy dog owner, NO children under 10, fenced yard, and it would probably be best if any current dogs are female and calm. Or maybe huge and assertive, lol.

Please respond here or contact me if you can help us save Dexter's life.

They are so cute.

LOL! Love the picture. I hope Dexter will be just as lucky as Elli!

Without a doubt this little fella will steal someone's heart like Elli did with mine...remember this picture...worth a thousand words!

OMD - he is off the charts cute.  All he needs is time and training.  Just so unfair.  I hope there is someone in that area that will step forward. It sounds like more and more doodles are ending up in re-home situations.  It seems everyone wants a cute dog, but then do not take care of them! Yikes!

More and more doodles ARE ending up in rehome situations, for every reason you can think of, but most commonly, because people believed the marketing things that are not true, like "living teddy bear", "low maintenance", "non-shedding hypoallergenic", "great with kids", and "healthier than purebreds". I cannot tell you how many people are asking to relinquish sick doodles that they can't afford to care for and in some cases, to even have diagnosed. And of course, no insurance. This past week, we took in 3 special needs dogs whose vet bills are already well over $2000.

Apparently, Dexter's owners believed the living teddy bear story. In other words, the dog sits there motionless most of the time looking cute until you have a few minutes to spare.

We can only hope that some of the responsible breeders would educate their prospective puppy owners on all the pros and cons .

Karen I sent you a friend request. I know a doodle owner that can help in the area. I'm just trying to link you two up. She is not a member here yet & can't comment. She is near Scranton.

Request accepted. :)

Sent you a message with her contact info for Facebook. If you need an email or phone no. let me know. I didn't know how else to connect her to you. I didn't know if you were on facebook.  :)

She really should join DK, the people here are so much nicer and smarter than on FB, lol.

Haha! I'm working on it! :)

Please let us know if things work out for Dexter.
