My little Pongo Doodle is eleven weeks old today! He has a puppy pen which houses his soft crate (bed) and his food and water and also his newspaper for his 'business'. He always uses his paper when he needs to relieve himself. He has also used paper when I put it down in the garden. How do I go about removing the paper from the pen and encouraging him simply to go outside to pee and poo? I am nervous about taking his paper away and ending up getting in a mess.. its a while since I've housetrained a puppy and any suggestions would be gratefully received. Thank you!
That is so helpful Jane thank you, I think I'm rushing a bit really, I'm quite happy with the paper down at the moment. Sometimes I read about how 'good' other peoples dogs are at going exclusively outside, housetrained in a few days etc etc and it makes me feel as though I am doing something wrong, or not being strict enough or strong enough etc. I think the fact that Pongo goes on his paper at all is great, so I think I'll probably stick to what I'm doing for now and like you said, give him a treat when he goes toilet outside.. he does drink a lot too. Do you keep water down at night-time?
Jordan now almost 4 still uses her pad if she needs to at night.....It bugs me to no end! She came pad trained from her breeder,I thought it was great. I take her out before I go to bed and DH "says" he takes her out when he gets home. Still when I get up the am maybe 3x week I will have a "gift". It is on the pad. I read somewhere that a pad trained dog is never truly outside only. I would love any idea's on this.
People have questioned why it bugs me because she is using her pad.I want her to GO out side.Like most other dogs do.
I would not pad train again....My advice get Pango outside only ASAP. Or you'll have a 4yo 70p doodle using a pad still.
