Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Recently, we went home to Indiana and left our dogs home with our daughter.  Since we have returned home, our dogs have been different. Our first night back we chalked up to excitement.  Both dogs would not settle down for bed and kept wandering in and out of our bedroom. Finally, my husband got up and sat in the living room with them, but he said it was a long time before they fell asleep.

Since we no longer shut our dogs in the bedroom with us at night, Vern and Fudge have been free to sleep wherever they want.  Usually, Fudge starts in the bedroom on our bed until my husband comes to bed or she gets too hot. Vern very rarely sleeps in our bedroom. He prefers his crate in the foyer or the cold, hard floor. We have been home since Monday night and for the last three nights, Vern, not Fudge, wants to be up on the bed with me. Every night, he comes around to my side, smiles up at me and puts those bear paws on the bed until I hoist him the rest of the way up. I already know this is absurd; no one has to tell me. Fudge no longer wants to be in the bedroom at all, but now goes straight to the foyer to sleep. Sometimes, she sleeps in the hall right outside our door and she has never done this before.

The other thing I have noticed is they both are vying for my husband’s attention more.  If they are on the bed when he walks into the room, they both get up and sit at the very edge of the bed until he pets them.  They cannot get enough of him and moon over him, despite the fact that I have pointed out to both of them that I am in the room too.  Usually, they come running to me, but now they have gone dippy over him. Do I need a new deodorant?

Today was the biggest change of all. Vern has started humping Fudge with a vengeance. He has never been a humper before and if he tried, Fudge put him immediately in his place. She just let him today and I had to call him off and make him quit A LOT. He did not seem inclined to stop and Fudge did not seem inclined to stop him. This is very new behavior.

WTD happened when we were gone? Did someone spike their water bowl? Are they growing up and sowing their wild oats? Did they both pee into a fountain at the same time and wish to change places with each other or some other dogs? Do I need to call a Priest?  Has this happened to anyone else when they went away for a few days?

Susan, I like your attitude. I would be beside myself and you seem relaxed and happy. You go, girl!! The Vern and Fudge threat always works :) Hope you make the next flight and have a great time!!
So sorry to hear you missed the first flight! going and coming back are two of the things that make me like travel less now. Glad you were able to catch a later flight Have a glorious time, it sounds very exciting. I like the idea, like a turtle of having your "home" move with you.
Wait, was this the daughter with the Frenchie ..... if so, I think that might explain a lot!
