Today, Vern went with the dog sitter and Fudge and I went to the Assisted Living Place where I volunteer. There are a couple of ladies there that love Fudge and asked me to bring her to visit. When we are out in our yard, Fudge reacts to every living creature she sees....rabbits, squirrels, birds, etc. and even a falling acorn sends her on quest to find that sound. When I take her to see the residents that live at this facility, it is like I have a different dog than the one that plays outside. She is so wonderful, I can't even put it into words. She was loving, calm, and very well behaved today and even rolled on her back to try and get some belly rubs. I think she almost fell asleep she was so relaxed. She sat for treats, sat for her picture to be taken by several people, offered her paw, and let anyone who wanted to give her a hug, hug her.

Fudge loves our dog sitter, but lately she wants to stay home with me. Vern doesn't even look back as he is loaded in her car. Out of sight, out of mind, as far as Vern is concerned. When I shut the door after Vern left, I turned back to look at Fudge and told her, "It's just you and me, kid," and I swear she was prancing around the room. I know she loves Vern, but doesn't she look like she is smiling a little in these pictures?

Does this look like grief and longing to see Vern, to you?

Lots of employees stopped by too, to give Fudge a hug and take her picture and two people wanted to take her home. One woman stopped in with her young grandson who wanted to see Fudge. The woman put him down right in front of Fudge and Fudge very gently leaned over and gave him a sweet kiss. He, in turn, let out a blood curdling scream that caught us all by surprise, including Fudge.

She cocked her head and looked at me like "what just happened?"

Later, the woman walked by Fudge again and the little boy had recovered and said, "bye, bye doggie!" We stayed a little while longer and came home and played a rousing game of fetch the ball, which is Fudge's favorite thing to do and I gave her a little peanut butter. As far as Fudge is concerned, it doesn't get much better!  I could tell, though, that she was really missing Vern.

I can't wait to share this post with DH, I think he will be confused!

Fudge, I may be a bit partial but you are one good looking girl!

I say the same thing every time you post something about Daisy. Fudge says thank you!!
What a great "girls day"!  This is one very happy Doodle girl.  I need to think about having a special day with Guinness real soon...he's almost like a girl.
Poor Guinness. First Murphy, and now he gets called a girl :) Some of these doodles have it rough....LOL!

Girls rule!  Boys drool!  A good girls only day is always fun!

Yep...that is Fudge's motto and Vern does, indeed, drool!!
In the second picture from the left (on the bottom), she looks like maybe she is considering missing Vern, but then she sees the ball again and forgets about him entirely.
Becka, Yes, she got over that feeling very quickly. She is napping now, because she knows when Vern comes home, watch out :)
Maybe she was just excited about staying home for the earthquake! She is so sweet, and those pictures are great!
Leslie, Fudge and I did not like that an EQ happened on our special day :) The nerve!

I love Fudge! I can well imagine two people wanted to take her home. I love Vern too and hope that he made it through the earthquake with his sitter just fine. We live in CA and when the really big one happened in 1989 our dog would not stand up, he crawled... poor guy.

Bonnie, Thank you! We went outside and she did not want to come in for awhile after the house shook, but now she is resting awaiting her brother's arrival home. He shakes up the house in a whole different way :)
