Hi Meredith: Here's a link for a discussion in the Review section here on the Gentle Leader Easy Walk Harness, which is the one in the first link you list. I absolutely love it, and everyone else who participated in the discussion did too. Hope this helps.
I actually have both for Connor. The EZ Walk works well in most circumstances, but when I need him to be absolutely, positively well-behaved, it's the Gentle Leader. We are working on using neither...just loose leash walking, but until we are there 100%, the Gentle Leader and EZ Walk are great standbys. Also, if your guy chews threw either, you can call Premier, get an RA number and they'll repair the harness for $5!!
Happy walking! :-)

I think it depends on the dog; for me, the problem was Jack's pulling- he is very strong & I am a small person...he was dragging me into the street to get to another dog. The Easy Walk stopped the pulling & lunging almost immediately, and gives me control over him. I have never had a dog with issues that would require keeping their mouths closed, which I assume the head collar does. Maybe it has to do with barking or biting the leash?
nah, they can still open their mouths- it doesnt have to do with biting. all it does is pull their nose in the proper direction- they can't possibly pull since it requires their head to go all the way up in the air and backwards.
Then I wonder how it keeps them "better behaved" than the Easy Walk; the Easy Walk turns them completely around facing you if they really act up. Can't get much more control than that! Maybe someone will tell us.
I think it makes them feel more controlled and subdued somehow. It is more invasive to have their face wrapped up in a halter than their chest in a halter I think. I don't use either.
I LOVE the harness. Many dogs hate the other due to the strap across their nose, and well I just didn't care to work though that. The harness they take to immediately :)
