Hi All,

A quick question for you all who have gone through neutering your puppy. Our puppy is approaching 6 months and we are getting ready for getting him neutered. I took him to our vet to schedule an appt. for surgery but when our vet checked our puppy, he found out that only one testicle has descended and the other one is no where to be found. He is recommending waiting for 1-2 months to wait and see if other testicle descends, otherwise he will have to make a bigger cut to find his other testicle.

In your experience have you seen in this situation that waiting couple of months has helped and the other testicle ended up descending or if it has not descended by now, it will not happen.

Should I even bring it up with our breeder, our breeders are awesome but I don't want to approach them with this issue if its normal for some puppies to have only testicle descended by 6 months.

Also any feedback on a ProCollar vs. Cone of shame?

Thanks

Raj

My son had the same thing, but he was not being neutered, of course.  By puberty, everything was fine.  Don't be overly concerned.  Cone of shame for neutering?

A quick update on Teddy and his neutering, he got neutered today even though he had one testicle descended. He had to be cut open as the doctor tried to find the other testicle and they could not find it. It seems that it was not formed to begin with, so Teddy was born with solo testicle. The doctor said, the other testicle could form maybe a year later, he has never seen anything like this. Hopefully this does not cause any issues down the years.

He has been very dazed after his surgery and has been laying down. He ate his dinner and drank lot of water as he was thirsty but he is not peeing or pooping as yet. The doctor said to expect him to be lethargic for couple of days. His stitches will be taken in couple of weeks so he has to wear the cone for 2 weeks. We got the soft cone and so far he is adjusting to it.

Poor Teddy, I hope he recovers quickly.

Thanks Karen, Teddy is doing better, he is eating good and drinking water plus he has been able to do pee and potty which is a good sign. Its just that he is lethargic and spending most of the time lying down. He is still getting used to the soft cone.

Hope Teddy is feeling better today!
