Our doodle puppy, Oliver was recently placed on a grain free diet by our vet after dealing with loose stool and digestive problems for a little more than a month. The food recommended by our vet is Royal Canin HP (I think). It seems to have helped, but it is extremely expensive. I have tried to research grain free foods online to find something comparable that would cost a little less, but I also don't want anything that will create digestive problems for him again. Does anybody have any recommendations either on grain/gluten free foods OR what types of food to feed him if I switch him to a raw-feeding/home-prepared diet?
we have had a similar problem. our one year old doodle keeps throwing up his food.and not eating much. the vet exrayed his stomach did blood work put him on three different pills. he is still throwing up green or yellow liquid. this has been going on for 7 weeks.he is being fed evo which was recommened by the vet. we started them (we have two they are brothers)no problem with the other doodle.on puppy science diet the n at 9 months on blue buffalo then on evo.we are tottally baffled with this.they are now one year old.
I think this is a more serious issue than Oliver's. Oliver is only 14 weeks old and except for loose stools, he is perfectly normal. Continuous vomiting over a 7 week period is something I would really pursue with the vet until you get an answer, it isn't food related. Something else is going on.
I feed raw, and I have done so since I got my doodles when they were puppies. I feed Blue Ridge Beef. It is not for folks with a weak stomach because it is just plain raw! I mix carbs with the Blue Ridge Beef. I was doing this at home, but one of my doodles seem to itch when he ate grains. I am doing Sojos with the Blue Ridge Beef and sometimes Honest Kitchen brands mixed with the raw and trying to stay away from grains. I have had my doodles for two years, and I have fed Country Pet and other raw brands. The Blue Ridge Beef has a vendor near me, and the cost is good because there is no shipping involved.
If I was more organized I would likely prepare some carbs with the food processor. There are lots of web sites for advice. I pasted a few below.
