Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I was browsing the web a couple of days ago looking for answers and found this site. Grasping at straws, thought maybe someone here could help us.

A few weeks ago I noticed that Bella's right eye may look red. I checked them both and sure enough. It was definitely red. My husband took her the following Monday/ They gave anti biotic med & eye cream. We took her back in the following (this past Monday, and there was no change. They sent us to a specialist in Madison. Saw her the next day. Gave us some more meds & eye drops. Ran some tests like blood history, urine analysis, serum test ( organ function) blasto ( fungal infection ) they have all come back normal . The blasto has not come back yet. She is talking of losing her eye. We asked isn't there another test? Tomorrow she goes back in for an ocular ultra sound & possible aspiration of tissue from eye. also chest x-ray and a abdominal ultra sound. to see if there is something hiding somewhere. She doesn't seem very optimistic though.

Bella is acting perfectly normal. Eating, playing, except that she is not seeing from that eye. We are so very sick about this. She is only 2.5 yrs. such a loving, smart beauty. She loves everyone.

We lost our last dog, who was a boxer husky mix on 12/26/09.

It seems impossible that this could be happening so soon.

Can anyone help??

Thank you

Heidi

Hi

Well, they did a biopsy of her sclaria and other tissue that is inflamed. Could get the results this week possible not, they did send them to the UwWclinlic here in Madison, so that is a plus. The chest x ray showed some haziness could be inflation or just normal for Bella since she has not had an ray before. The ultra sound of abdominal showed a slight change in on lymph node probably nothing, but can't totally rule out cancer.

Depending on what type of tumor this may turn out to be benign or malignant slight chance it could move to other eye, but so far no sign of that. This thing just moves to fast, she is almost totally blind in the right eye. They said the retina is totally detached but there's a little light getting in only a very slight chance she will regain any sight.

We just have to wait. I hope that is the right thing to do or maybe we should just take the right eye now. In case it is the type of tumor that will spread. I hate this.......

Bella is probably mad at us for leaving her. Mike dropped her off this morning and I picked her up. She seemed excited to see me, but since we got home she won't give me any kisses, but she is probably still groggy from the sedation.

Thank you everyone for listening & for all the well wishes, it means a lot

Thanks for the update.  Thinking of you.  If it is not cancer, and she does loose an eye, be sure to look me up.  I lived with and loved a blind dog for many years.  It was wonderful. So, there is some hope today.  I know, the waiting is the hardest part.  Let her rest. I am sure she loves you and is happy to be home. Remember, she can feel your grief, so relax and spend some quiet time together.

Thank you for updating us. Hoping for the best. Lots of hugs and doodlekisses.

Ditto.

Heidi,  Thank you for updating.  I am so sorry this is so serious. Don't worry, Bella still loves you.

Thanks for the update.  Hoping that the results come back very quickly for you.  We will be watching for further updates.  In the mean time just give her some extra hugs!

Heidi, my prayers and best thoughts are for you, Bella and your family. We might not be able to give you answers that help Bella but you will find friends and comfort here. Welcome.

Bella didn't feel well last night or this morning after being put out for the tests. The vet said to give her something easy to digest to eat Like hamburger. We don't eat hamburger, I'm not going to feed it to my baby. I googled "easier foods for sick dog to digest. They said lean meats, rice & other grains. I made her some couscous and she loved it. When I pulled in tonight she was in the couch at the window and then she met me at the door with her rawhide in her mouth doing the Bella dance as usual. LOL!

She also sat next to me on the couch & licked me a bit. she is feeling better.

Just have to wait for results. We are getting used to the idea of her losing the eye & hoping it isn't something that will spread to the other.

I'll keep you posted. Thank you!

Heidi
