Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

What are the differences between Goldendoodles and Labradoodles? Preference? Size? Shedding? Coat colors?

So far I have only been searching for Goldendoodle puppies, but perhaps I should be looking at both?

Any info that Doodle parents can share would be great!

I live in Madison, WI. At this point, I am just trying to find the best breeder who breeds standards, since I like bigger dogs. I would love to be able to find one within a couple hours' drive if possible, but this is so important to me, so I will totally drive farther, or even fly if I have to.
All I know is that when I was looking for a Labradoodle I could only get F1 or F1b's here in Ireland and none from health tested parents so therefore none from responsible breeders. Then I started looking across the water in the UK and did loads of research.  I used every means possible to find a good breeder. A great website can be deceptive. Gorgeous pictures of beautiful puppies and testimonials too good to be true.  When I found a site I liked I kept cross checking all the links and looking at the pedigrees of some of the dogs which I googled.    I discovered one dog that looked gorgeous but was retired early from breeding so I hunted down some of the previous puppies and found out that some genetic disease had cropped up in some of them.    So I dug and kept digging until I found my breeder high up in Scotland.  She has been breeding Labradoodles for seven years but Labradors for twenty years.  The website was ok but I have seen better and she wasn't brilliant at sending loads of images.  But, and it's a big but.  Every question I had, and there were many were answered to my satisfaction.  The health checks were extensive and real.  The dogs are gorgeous and very well looked after.  I waited nine months for Riley who I sincerely hope will live to a good age in good health.  His personality is exactly what I wanted, I think he is adorable and we have had him for nearly eight whole weeks now!!!  Good luck in your search but keep repeating the old latin phrase 'caveat emptor' buyer beware  Good Googling....

Yes! This is exactly what I am experiencing!!! I have probably spent 45 hours on the internet going in circles. Like you, I don't care about fancy websites...I just want a good, honest, caring breeder who does health testing, actually loves their dogs and doesn't think of them as property off in some dark kennel somewhere... I talked to a breeder yesterday and she was actually defensive b/c I was asking questions about health testing (which she does not do). Next!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I am SO HAPPY for you that you have found your great Riley!

Honestly I am not in a huge hurry, as I just lost my beloved Haus of 12 years, 6 weeks ago. I just know that I am heartbroken and I am the type of person who needs a dog to love! My biggest concern is finding a responsible breeder b/c my Haus had to have 2 back surgeries and a parathyroidectomy during his lifetime.

Buyer beware...

It's always a good idea to do research and go see puppies and the parents if possible.  We have a F1b LD and an ALD, neither shed.  We live in the Seattle area and they have a monthly doodle romp here.  We were able to go see different sizes and colors and temperments and then asked about the breeders of dogs we liked.  Also, a GD we really liked...my husband had an immediate allergic reaction to.  Also, we almost adopted a parti colored LD but it turned out ONE of the colors shed and again my husband was allergic.
Going to a doodle romp! What a great idea! That is seriously a fantastic idea to be able to check out a bunch of different types. Thanks so much! Now if I can just find one in WI! :-)
Go to the Membership Page (the link is on the top tool bar of the main page or your main page) and try typing in Wisconsin and see if it brings up all the members in that state.  Or type in the town.  I think I remember doing that once.  Check out their pages to see what kind of Doodle they have.  Then you can send personal messages to those people near you to inquire where they got their Doodles and about upcoming romps.
That was great advice! I just did that! Thanks so much!!!

GOLDENDOODLES are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Labradoodles! LOL HA HA HA, just kidding.

Daisy is an F1-B Goldendoodle that does NOT shed, but some do, you just never know.

They are so similar the changes for both of them is in the level (as in F1 - F1B and such)

Good luck on your search!

Thanks Lisa!
Gracie Doodle says Lisa Rocks!!!!!
Good thing you added the LOL and "just kidding" - 'cause them there's fightin' words!!!  Our labradoodles are pretty darn great, too!!  :)
And, as I typed earlier, there are some LDs that look just like Gracie Doodle who is a GD...Sedona is the one I was talking about!!!  Perfect example of the two different breeds but similar looks, etc.
