Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Just curious. I went on the AKC website tonight and I didn't find the goldendoodle as a recognized breed. I didn't think that doodles would qualify but I read in a forum entry somewhere that they are. Is their website not just updated?

It really wouldn't make a difference to us - we love our girl even without the certification. Just a topic to discuss, I guess.

Thanks.

Goldendoodles and Labradoodles are mixed breeds. The AKC only recognizes purebreeds. I don't want to raise any controversy but most in the doodle world actually prefer it that way. Nightline had a most unflattering piece on March 11th called "Best in Show?". They pointed out a few of the health issues that have arisen with purebreeds. The concern with breeding to a standard has been to the detriment of many of the purebreeds. Here is a link to the show. http://abcnews.go.com/search?searchtext=best%20in%20show&type= If this link does not work for you just go the ABC Nightline site and search for "Best in Show?". It was very eye opening and interestingly enough the AKC had no comment.
Wow! That was a very insightful piece on AKC. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the response. I didn't think they would be but I thought I saw it on somebody's post. I must have been sleepy when I was reading the post ; >
Ann I agree with you but like I've been writing, since most the competitive shows around my area are all run by AKC. I'd like to eventually compete with Fergie and because she's a mix I can't. I'm really disappointed about that.
That was a very interesting piece on the AKC. I am fine with them not reconizing the Doodle breeds. There would way to much control on what they should look like instead of them each having their own personalitly and adorable individual look. Which is what makes are doodle special.
