Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Im getting black goldendoodle soon. I have been told her coat may change in color by the time shes one or so because her dad is a "Blue" poodle.
Do any of you have a doodle with this in the pedigree? If so would like to see pics of what minie may look like in color.

Tammy - I don't, but will be looking for photos as your doodle grows to see how his coat changes. I've hear as they age, their coat takes on a blue-ish gray. Looking forward to seeing that first puppy photo!
Tammy ~ out of curiousity I just googled blue poodle genes and found a site with photos. It said:
Blue is a dilute of black. It carries the fading gene.Blue poodle puppies are born black and turn blue by two years of age.
This poodle color takes the longest time to clear.
Puppies at a young age will have brown highlights showing they are a blue not black puppy. By 2 years of age the dog will turn a dark color metal gray. There are varying shades of blue as in any color.
Blue poodles should have black points and dark brown eyes.
I assuming the mom will be a golden retriever, so the dad will be the source of the dilution or fading gene. It occurs in poodles, and, as Linda's source points out, the color change as the puppy ages is called "clearing."
Cosmo inherited the dilution gene from at least one parent, judging by the way they look as adults. Cosmo was born almost chocolate brown, but his coat began lightening almost immediately. He is now a mix of cafe and cream (and, in some lights, maybe even lavender!); his eyes are amber, and his nose, lips, and eye-rims is rose- or liver-colored. This is consistent with dilution in the chocolate poodle.

Don't know a thing about doodles/poodles/or blue dogs. I have had Blue Cats. One Russian Blue and one British Blue Short hair. Steal gray is the actual colorFor some reason the picture is distorted but you get the idea. My nickname used to be Blu, because of my cats. Okay, Okay, sick cat woman that I am.... but I adored my blue cats
Here is a better picture from the web showing a blue cat. This one is not mine-just found the image to show color
Joanne, I had a blue Persian cat. He was so pretty.
I'll bet Karen will chime in, she is a poodle JENIOUS!
Blue poodles are much darker than this; this would be called silver in a poodle. The blues are like a washed-out or faded black, or a dark charcoal grey. I could show you pictures of blue show poodles, but that may not be what a blue doodle would look like. I've noticed that a lot of doodles are lighter in the face and certain other body parts than poodles are, more of a phantom look. I maight be mistaken, but I think Sheri's Lucy (Lucy & Sophie's mom) had a blue poodle father.
Tammie, have you not seen photos of your puppy's parents?
Oh yes Ive seen pictures. The mom is a golden ret of course and the dad is a blue poodle. Very beautiful. The puppies are black with white hairs. Some have white tips on the feet and some have white around the muzzle. Very curly at 3 weeks old.
Reguarding the prev comment and pict of goldendoodle. I think also that would be considered a silver.
The dad of this puppy has parti poodle and silver poodle in his pedigree
Actually, Lucy and Sophie are littermates, so if I'm right they both had a blue poodle for a father, but Lucy is the one who inherited his coloring. Here's a link to their page, if you look at the photos, you'll see what color your puppy might be as an adult:
