I just heard about this site. It is connected with an environmental group, the National Resources Defense Council.

http://www.greenpaws.org/

I don't really know if all of it is accurate but it may be a good starting point to evaluate dog products like flea and tick treatments. Some of the sites it connects to have anecdotal posts, which are hard to evaluate for truth. It's also important to remember there is a risk/benefit ratio to consider in treatments.

I use Frontline every month year round since I've seen ticks in early winter and sometimes when we have a warm spell in winter. I've had no problem but then you never know about long term effects. On the other hand, I do know the effects of Lyme can be devastating!

Thanks, yes, the long term effects of Lymes are horrible. Do you also vaccinate them with the Lyme's vaccine? I am going to switch back to Frontline Plus I think, that looks safer then the K9 Advantix

Yes, I do vaccinate them.

JD's specialist feels Frontline is safest for him, for what that's worth. He has to be on something reliable, and that's the one she recommends.

Karen, I saw that Frontline is safter then the K9 Advantix that I have Jack on. I am going to try Comfortis, and I pruchased the  Sentry Natural Defense to see if that will wards off any ticks. Ticks are not a huge problem here.

Thanks for the link.

I will look at it good this weekend.

At a Glance...I wont be switchign to K9 Advantix...Im not surprised since it seems to work better...It has worse chemicals.

Maybe they will have something good on the site that is natural to help is with ticks.  We dont have flea problems usually in MN.

I almost cried when I put frontline on Trixie the 1st time.  I am against using Chemicals & meds when not needed.  But I also know that Lyme disease is very bad.  I do not want to use the Lyme Vaccine.

I see oil of Tea tree is listed as bad also...Isnt that what a lot of people use for grooming?  Or am I getting it mixed up with something else?

It looks like their link for Natural Flea & Tick treatment is really only for Fleas.  So even they dont list a Safe preventative/treatment for ticks.  : (
I use Comfortis for my guys, have for the past year and I love it, they have both done fine on it.  I give it to them with a piece of cheese and they are fine.  No more greasy coats, and no more running in circkles and howling when I had to put the other on them.  It works, we have no fleas or ticks in them, so I am really happy with it.
