Hi all,

I just had Simba groomed and he looks like a shaved poodle.  Anyone know of a groomer in Westchester County that knows how to groom doodles?

Also, is it possible to keep him mat-free?  That's why the groomer insisted he had to be shaved, because of all the mats which she said were painful for him.  How are mats painful to the dogs?

As I understand it, the hair continues growing and pulling the skin tighter into the mat.  This can cause skin irritation.  This is part of the reason groomers shave down dogs with mats.

In the Grooming group they have details with the length etc.. of a great doodle cut. I have brought those details with me to my groomer. All she had to do was follow the instructions. He came out great. Also if you brush on a regular basis the mats will be less. Good Luck! It grows back fast.
Hi, Anna!  Where do you take Achilles for grooming.  We went to our groomer last week and she said Olivia has too many mats this time for her to give Olivia a cut.  After the winter (she was always covered with snowballs), I agree that she probably has some mats on her legs and belly that I have not kept up with.  Well, even though the groomer didn't want to spend time on Olivia, she still gave her a bath and cut her long beautiful eyelashes.  YIKES!  What was that all about.  Since last week, I have been working on Olivia myself.  I have been brushing sections of her coat with the Les Pooche brush and triming her with pet scissors.  She actually looks kind of cute.  I have to tweak some sections which look a little choppy.  We have tried quite a few groomers since we have had our Doodles and none of them want to hear anything about how to groom Doodles.
