Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
This probably should be a blog, but I'll include a question so it can fit under the "definition" of a discussion. Anyway, I'm wondering if Doodles know whether they're boys or girls once they're neutered? My Guinness often acts kind of "girly" while Murph acts really macho all the time....except when he's scared of something then he runs crying to his Mommy (not unlike most men I've met). So do they actually have "sexual behavioral characteristics"? You may wonder why this would even come up or why I'd care. Here's the story. I was in our pet store a couple weeks ago and I saw a beautiful dog bed....really pretty floral that would go really well with my living room colors. I loved it and brought it home. It was actually for Guinness since it's on the smaller side. Here it is...
My DH took one look at it and asked if they had any with pictures of football players or cars on them....like that would go in my living room....hello???? Anyway, I was operating under the assumption that my boys are DOGS so what would they care if this is a "girly" bed.....WRONG. They care. They want nothing to do with this bed. Murph tried it once (and you can imagine how ridiculous he looked on this little flowery bed) and that was it. Guinness doesn't even want to look at it. He'll lie down right next to it but refuses to lay on it.
So what's going on here? Do they think people will call them "sissies" if they sleep on the bed? Are they feeling a bit "ridiculed" because people have been making comments about their collars with the pink hearts on them? Are they trying to assert their manhood? WTD?

Oh, I love that last picture!! Guinness looks pi$$ed :) My manly Vern wouldn't be caught dead on that "girly" bed. Of course, he is braver than most dogs. LOL I wonder if they will eventually give in and realize that the bed does not make the man :)
Guinness does have that look of "you have got to be kidding" LOL
First, you're right - it's a beautiful cover and it does go nicely with your colors!
Second - maybe the bed smells "funny" since it just came from the store. Maybe once it airs out, Guinness will like it better. I doubt that dogs really care about gender specific colors and designs, but what do I know???
JD would be far more embarrassed by a collar with pink hearts than he would be by flowers on his bed. (In fact, his bed is covered with a floral print comforter, but don't tell him I told you that.) Maybe the bed was the final straw after the collar comments, lol. G & M do look like they're pretty fed up with all the girly stuff. Look out, Jane, they may feel they have to start asserting their manhood with a little leg-lifting!
It took JD a couple of weeks to start using his new bed. Maybe G & M will decide to embrace their feminine side and start using this one once the heart collars come off and the shamrocks go on!
Really pretty bed. Super funny reaction!
(By the way anything can go in the Forum. Only Blogs have restrictions).
Oh boy, this changes everything :) LOL
LOL.
You are so funny:)
As if you didn't know! Ha ha
It doesnt look very cuddly to me...Like the shape of the bed is wrong.
I suppose the true test would be to cover it in a 'Manly' Fabric so it is the same bed & shape & see if they lay on it then!
This is so hilarious!!!! They are asserting their manhood most definitely :)
Maybe draw a couple of fire hydrants between flowers? :)
It is very pretty bed and I love their collars too!
