Happy Groundhog's Day? Why does a groundhog even get a day? Aren't there many more deserving (not to mention attractive) animals out there for whom we could name days?

Personally, I think it must be April Fool's Day. We got our first measurable (and shovel-able) snowfall last night. I am not hopeful for an early spring, it appears winter is just first starting.

At least Hallmark isn't selling Groundhog's Day cards...or are they? Do the PA school kids have Groundhog's Day parties at school and exchange cards? And the room mothers bring cupcakes? There's a cake decorating challenge for some aspiring young baker. Hey, Camilla....

Good question. My girls went to school in Maryland, so I will have to ask the neighbors how they celebrate the big event :) I am sure there are cards, too. It would sure make my walks nicer in the Spring if they celebrated by moving them all to another state :)

Karen, my friend Kathy once built an entire "unit of instruction" about groundhogs and Groundhog Day.  I can't remember all of the learning activities included in the unit, but it was capped off by a showing of the movie "Groundhog Day".  She even had a groundhog Beanie Baby sitting on her overhead projector.  

You know, if I think back on it - that unit may have foreshadowed her emerging insanity!!  (Just kidding, Kathy - if you're reading this!!!)
