I need recommendations for a super strong head collar or harness for Jack. This past weekend I took him walking at the park. We had a new head collar on him, and he managed to nearly chew through the part that the leash hooks onto. Jack walks fairly well, but at 90 lbs when he pulls he can be a little hard to handle. This is the second collar we've gone through in the last few months. Any suggestions

Enzo is only 7 months...but figured out how to slip out of her collars, all too easily. We went with the Easy Walk harness...doubles as a no pull harness and I know she'll never be able to wiggle out of of.

The Easy Walk harness was a God-send for me. We no longer need anything other than a plain old flat buckle collar, but the harness allowed me to walk him without pulling and with good control while we worked up to this point. And he was an extremely strong dog in his youth; he once snapped a 15 ft canvas tie-out line!

Once again I recommend prong collars. I love mine and recommended them recently and Bonnie wrote to tell me how well they work for her two. Leashesbydesign.com can custom make easy open, close ones.

We used prong collars when Jack was younger. He is really pretty good when we walk, but wit 3 dogs and 2 adults, I need a little help

I just got the prong collars that F is recommending. My DH runs our Kona and our DD's Owen every morning. 90 pounds and 70 pounds respectively. He said these collars have made a world of difference!!! Both dogs are being incredibly responsive. Not only are they not pulling, they are coming when called when they are off-leash at the park.

Thanks for the heads up, F.  When we are out and about, I use the Easy Walk...but at home, in the yard, for training purposes and just because she can not run free because of the coyote situation, I was using a choke collar on her.  Sometimes, from a standing position, she decides she wants to play and will bolt forward!  I'm getting pretty good at reading her body language, but I am terrified she is going to really harm herself.  I have visions of a bruised trachea or something equally bad.  I think maybe the prong maybe my answer.  Just emailed Shannon at LeashesbyDesign...hoping to hear from them soon.  Thanks again!

PS   told them I wanted the leather intertwined medium prong with the side release buckle.

I like the Halti because it teaches cause and effect - the dog pulls and the head collar tightens up, stop pulling and the head collar loosens. I have heard good things about the Easy-Walk harness too. Of course, all of these things are just tools to give you better control while you work on continuing your training!!

We love our Easy Walk Harness...can't say enough about it!

After trying several alternatives, I started to walk Charlotte with a prong collar. Our trainer explained the value of the prong collar like this: While other collars manage unwanted behaviors, the prong collar actually helps to teach the desired behavior. For us, it has been a terrific training tool. I hesitated at first, but I am glad that she finally convinced me to try it.

P.S.:  We use the Herm Sprenger collar without the quick-release option.

Exactly what I've just ordered.

Sue Z's comment reminded me that I also used a simple, slip safety collar as a backup to the prong collar when we first started training with the prong collar. Be sure to ask your trainer how to use both together.
