Sidiqi's special role in life is to make people laugh and feel special. When he's excited to see someone, his whole body curls in on itself like a comma, waggy, waggy, waggy. Yesterday, I was inside working and Sidiqi was outside with my husband. A couple in wheelchairs came by. We see these folks often. We hear them before we see them because they start calling out "Sanuki" from about a block away. (They've never gotten his name quite right, but it doesn't bother him a bit. :))
Yesterday, as always, he was thrilled to see them. They pulled their wheelchairs as close to the curb as possible so he could jump up and lick their faces. Then he started racing around the yard in circles, the picture of pure joy. His ears were back, he had a stick in his mouth. (Of course. He expresses his joy orally. He's just not complete unless he has something in his mouth.) He just kept sprinting around the yard, around trees, leaping over bushes, back to the people, and then around again. I could hear the pleasure in their laughs, knowing that our dog was this excited about seeing them. They go by our house at least a few times every day, and I just know they choose this route because they want to see Sidiqi.
I'd love to hear your stories. Any special therapy dog stories?
