Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello,

I just bought my goldendoodle puppy (9 weeks) a week ago and he is biting hard and lunging at us! I have tried everything the websites and youtube say to do and it seems to just make him worse. I tried yelping like a dog, strongly and consistently saying no bite, turning away and offering a toy. He just bites harder and if I turn around to walk away he just jumps on the back of me and bites! He only does this a couple times a day. I also make sure that he gets a lot of exercise. Is this normal puppy behavior because it seems way too aggressive! Does it just take longer than a week for him to pick up on this? How long until it stops? I would love to hear from others that have had this problem! Any dog trainers here or people that have gone through a training program with their dog? Also, we met the parents of my puppy and met the family that raised him before we bought him and they were all great. Thanks!

This is not aggressive behavior....this is NORMAL, puppy behavior. They all go through this stage and it will pass. Fudge was brutal as a puppy and I agree with F...time outs worked for me, too. Many times they are tired when they are at their worst and a time out allows everyone to re-group. Join the Puppy Group. Lots of information there for new puppy owners. Good luck!

Yep.  This is called a Puppy. When I think of a PUPPY- I think of biting.  Similar to human babies with the constant need to suck, we give them a pacifier.  Puppies, we give them something to chew on.  Stock up on chews-loads of them in any Pet Store.  Better yet, purchase an Antler to let this pup get that chewing urge out.  It really is NATURE~ NORMAL to want to chew.  Until they are 5 months old, this will not go away.  They need a chew!

Please do a search for Deer Antlers or Elk Antlers and purchase one.  You will not regret it.

Then each time this pup comes at you with his mouth open, insert a nice chew  :)  It really is all he wants and needs.    Honestly, get one of those antlers and this too, shall pass.

You've got a normal doodle puppy! Lots of chew toys - antlers, bones with frozen peanut butter , etc. and interactive toys filled with kibble- gave my doodle's jaws and mind a workout. We had a semi regular crate and playtime schedule for the first month or two. And I remember lots of 10 minute time outs when he got the crazies. The crate worked like a charm. We began basic puppy training in a group EARLY. He learned from day 1 that he could not have his treat unless he took it gently. All that said, there was no way to avoid the 7 pm zoomies that happened like clockwork each night...which I wasn't sure I would survive but kind of miss today :) at about 11 months, his behavior calmed considerably and on his first birthday he passed his CGC. He still gets the zoomies outside but he's my big lovable couch buddy in the house.
