I noticed this morning the Charlie had brown goop coming out of his ear and it is very red and tender. Today is Saturday --- is there anything I can do to ease the pain since I won't be able to get to the vet for a few days??

He is about 18 months

I clean my doodle's ears on a regular basis, i use Qtips. And i also keep drops on hand at all times, script from vet.. Especialy with summer coming, the heat and humidity make a big difference. Good luck!

Megan...how are Charlie's ears this morning?  Hope he is improving.

Hoping to hear an update on Charlie soon.

Just wondering how Charlie is doing!   Hoping things are better:)

I took Charlie to the vet this morning. He had to be sedated because he wouldn't let them stick their fingers in his ears long enough to get all the gunk out!

Turns out he had a mild infection in one ear and a severe infection (Otitis externa) in the other! He is on antibiotics and anti-inflammatory pills as well as a antibacterial cleanser and anti-fungal flush! Let's hope he will let me clean him every night!

Thank you for all your kind words and advice! You can hardly tell Charlie was sedated today....he's already running around the yard as usual! :)

Thank you so much for the update. Hoping Charlie feels well soon. The ear cleaning will be a "training opportunity" ;o) Good luck with that! May it be easier than you are imagining.

Glad you took him to the vet. Nothing hurts like a sore ear. Sounds like he will be on the road to recovery very soon.

So glad he is on the road to recovery!

Wow, sedated. That ear must have been very painful. Did the vet tell you to clean the ears every night. That sounds extreme. But after this infection is cleared up you will have to be diligent. I now clean ears every 2 -3 weeks because the dogs have been fine. But I used to do it weekly. Wishing Charlie a speedy recovery.

Thanks for the update and happy to hear they found out what was wrong and treating him!  It is amazing how they bounce back once they get on antibiotics!  Glad he is on the road to recovery!

Unfortunately, I gained a lot of experience from ear infections after the fact when I was a new doodle owner.  I am glad Charlie is doing better.  I highly recommend (like many others) the Zymox Otic with hydrocortisone especially as a preventative.  If one of my dogs is scheduled to go to the groomers I will give it to him days ahead of time.  This can be ordered from Amazon without a prescription.  I keep it on hand all of the time even when we travel with the doods.
