Hello! Hunter seems to have a little rash on the inside of her hind legs that she chews at sometimes. I took her to the groomer yesterday and I asked about it and she said it looked to be a slight skin allergy. It doesn't appear to be anything that would require going to the vet but I am wondering what kind of home remedy I might try to help it. Any ideas? THANK YOU!!!!

So, Hunter went to the vet today. The vet said she had a few small areas of "puppy pyoderma" and what looks like a slight allergy to possibly a shampoo I used on her or just some overall dryness. She said it wasn't bad could get there if untrated. So glad I went!! I got a shampoo for her called Hydra Pearls Hydrating from the vet and she said to give her a bath today in Selsun Blue and then tomorrow reapply her Frontline Plus. The over the weekend bath her in the Hydrating Pearls and do that weekly even if its not just her whole body and just her legs and belly. She also gave her an antibiotic for 10 days and antihistamine tablets to take over the next few days and as needed. I was a little concerned about the food only because about 2 months ago I transitioned her over from Eagle to Canidae - I am still not sold on Canidae - she seems to be a little gassy...... but she did say that a food allergy tends to show up on the feet (her's is just the insides of her hind legs) their faces/chins and their ears and she said all of those areas were perfect. The antihistamine is making her a little loopy! LOL I have her a whole one - she said either a whole or 1/2 but I wanted to her to have some definate relief - I think tomorrow I will go with a 1/2 and watch her and then give her the other 1/2 if she starts scratching or chewing.

Has anyone ever had a "pyoderma" incident? The vet said there was nothing I could have done to prevent it :-( THANK YOU ALL SOOOO MUCH FOR ALL OF YOUR WONDERFUL ADVISE AS USUAL!!
So glad you went and it's not anything serious or long-term! And I'm REALLY glad it isn't allergies!!!!! I'll bet Hunter is glad too, although she probably isn't thrilled about having so many baths.
Denise, do a search for the shampoo on-line in case you have to buy more. Jack's vet once sold me a wonderful shampoo, but it cost $26 for 6 oz! I found it on line for half that!
YAY FOR NO ALLERGIES!!!!!!!
PS- get through this and then we'll look at the food again. ;-)
This shampoo was $9 but I will say our vet is very cost consious about everything, she said she wants to make sure every animal gets what they need, we are very fortunate we have her. BUT it is a small bottle and I will check online because she pretty much said to use it forever if I was happy with it. Anyways, Hunter will be THRILLED with all the baths, she is a water freak! I am not thrilled because it turns into a flooded bathroom! LOL I did get one of those sprayers you screw onto your faucet to make sure I get her rinsed good.

YAY For NO ALLERGIES is right!! I was really worried about that.

Great, I am looking forward to revisiting the food, I am just not having good feelings with the Canidae. :-)
I'm glad to hear you have a diagnosis and that the condition is treatable. Here is an article on pyoderma if you're interested. Pyoderma
That was an interesting article, thank you very much! It is cephalexin that she is on along with an antihistimine. She does seem to be scratching and biting a lot less and hopefully it will clear up with the medications. Wish us luck!!
I most certainly do.
