Hi, all. Hope everyone is enjoying the long holiday weekend. Looking for  recommendations for a nice hike/scenic walk for the family and Truffle tomorrow. We live in Essex County, NJ and would be fine to drive up to an hour or so away. Thanks in advance!

The Ramapo Reservation near Ramapo college, off Route 202, is nice. There is a reservoir at the top but I've never made it up there.

Thanks for the recommendation!

Or, Hacklebarney State Park - beautiful, shaded hikes by moving water. We love it there! 78W to Chester - just past Allstede's farm market if you know it...

So funny, Cindy - that's where we decided to go. Had a wonderful 2.8 mile hike - just gorgeous. And topped it off with some ice cream on Main Street in Chester. A lovely day. Truffle had a great time!

Nice! We have never been with Rip. Did you go off or on leash?

On leash - according to the park rules, dogs must be leashed (plus, I don't trust the little monster off leash). We saw a handful of pups while we were there. It was our first long hike with him on terrain that wasn't always flat and smooth, and he navigated it quite well. I had a bit more difficulty keeping my balance while walking him on the rougher & rockier part of the trail, but it was fine in the end. There's an area with a small waterfall that has some climbable rocks back up to the main path and he climbed that with us, too - he surprised and impressed me with his agility!  The park is about an hour from us. I'd go there again in a heartbeat.
