We do walk on concrete a lot...I ordered some boots to protect her feet.
I agree. Try to keep it clean and dry, it should heal quickly.
Thank you, F and Karen! I feel better now. :) Hopefully Roxy will, too! Someone else suggested Neosporin...do you think it will hurt her if (when) she licks it off?
It looks to me like the skin on her pad has started to regranulate as it heals from an abrasion. This happened to the same area of my dog's paw pad, and it took about a month to fully heal. When it was initially injured, I put a child's knee sock over her foot and secured it to her leg with self-adhesive athletic tape. You can tell that your girl has been licking it a lot, as the color of the hair around the sore has turned a bit reddish. If she'll tolerate it, you could try to cove it with a clean sock while in the house and in your sight.
Thanks, Laurie. I ended up taking her to the vet today because the edges were loose and a bit unconnected. I was worried about it getting caught on something and ripping or getting infected. The vet put a bandage on her foot, and he said to leave it on for 4-5 days, assuming she leaves it on. Ha. She's licked at it a little bit so far...I'm surprised she's not constantly at it. I'm trying to decide if I should put a cone around her neck at night when I'm asleep. I may do that.
I remember noticing that Charlotte's foot looked something like you described. I didn't need to take her to the vet, though, as she took care of trimming it herself!
