Honey is in the most capable and and loving arms of Dr. Beam and his staff in Alvarado, Texas. I spent some time with her before his staff took her in the back. They explained she would have her surgery by Friday or Monday at the latest. She then will begin a grueling and painful, for the first several weeks, 4-8 week rehabilitation. Dr. Beam's assistant explained that because she is young it will probably be no more than 6 weeks and may be even quicker. That is good news.
Before I departed his office to start back to Savannah I asked if I could see her again. They took me back through their incredible facility to their kennels. She was standing there in her large kennel with her favorite sleeping rug and her toys, but looking forlorn and confused. I sat with her and held her through the kennel while she licked my ears, also known as Doodle Kisses. I promised I would come back for her soon. I then left. It was not a good.....for me.
After regaining my composure I headed toward Savannah making it to Minden, LA before stopping for the night. Tomorrow early evening I will make it back home. All-in-all I will log about 2800 miles. Well worth it to me...and Joyce.
Please keep in mind this was a DRC family effort. We all participated whether it be making flight arrangements, the vets devoting their time and resources, her fosters, her transportation, those who donated for her surgery or the many who gave morale support to the latter. As Jacquie commented today, we, DRC, are a family and a family can do awesome things together.
OK...time to get some rest and hit the road again tomorrow. Thank y'all for everything EVERYONE has done.
Nite.

That video is just wonderful! OMD, she is so happy, I think she knows she's home in the arms of someone who'll love her forever. Wishing Dane, Joyce, Guinness, Rosco and Honey a happily ever after. :>)
Honey's Reunion!!!!
Sorry for the late update, but today was a very long and emotional day. I arrived at the Alvarado Vet Clinic around 12:30 PM and delivered an awesome and two very large Edible Bouquets to Dr. Beam and the entire staff of the clinic in behalf of Jacquie and DRC. They were so surprised and were very appreciative. It did not last very long. After spending some time with Dr. Beam and his assistant, Stephanie, took me out back to greet with Honey. The video speaks for itself.
From there we headed back to our home base near Longview, TX to meet with her new brothers. Those pics and videos I will post tomorrow. Been a long day and a very long several weeks. Until tomorrow. Goodnight from us all.
PS....we video conferenced with her foster parents, Sheri and Mike Clement, tonight. They, like us fell in love with her. We asked them to be her God parents. They accepted. They have unlimited visitation and video privileges. They are an awesome part of her journey, also.
I'm going home....I am really going HOME!!!!!!!!
Great reunion, happy day.
Sheri and Mike as godparents! lovely idea! I saw these pictures on FB yesterday, but just had to watch that awesome video once more! Love you Honey- you have stolen many hearts and now you have the rest of your sweet life to live with your new family!
We were honored that you wanted us to be her God Parents and we look forward to our first trip South so we can take you up on the visit. With your 3 and our 2 we will have our own Doodle Romp. It was so wonderful seeing Honey "live" via facetime last night. To everyone here, she looked tired as it had been a long day for them, but she looked happy. She seemed to recognize our voices but couldn't quite figure out where they were coming from. The sweetest thing happened while we were talking (the camera on Honey). Rosco came over and laid down beside Honey. They (Rosco and Guinness) seem to be fully aware that she needs some special lovin right now. You would think 3 doodles and 2 adults in a RV might be a little crazy, but all the dogs were just sort of sacked out. The hard part of Honey's journey is complete. Now she just has to heel and live her happily ever after! Thank you so so much for completing her journey! I know she is where she was meant to be.
So sweet Sheri-glad for you and Mike, too, to see Honey settle in so nice with her new family
Thanks Sheri for the additional update! I love the part about Roscoe laying down next to Honey and that the brothers seem to know what Honey needs. So sweet. I'm so happy you and your family will still be a part of Honey's life - it just seems fitting!
Sheri, had it not been for your willingness to take Honey in as a foster at a less-than-ideal time in your lives, and to go the extra mile (and then some!) to care for her and get her evaluated, nothing that came after would have been possible. You and Mike have truly been her godparents all along, it's only fitting that the title should be made official. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
:o)
Karen, beautifully said...Such a true statement..thank you Sheri!
