Poor Billy has another hot spot. We are shaving the area and cleaning it with a sterile solution and applying a 1% Cortozone creme to the area . It seems to be painful,  but Billy is so good he is letting us treat the area.

Does anyone have any other advice or experience with hot spots?  We are fairly certain that he gets them because he swims several times a day and never really dries thoroughly even though we towel dry him every time he is out of the pool. This is his third hot spot and other then a antibiotic injection the vet has not treated it differently.

Are some dogs just more prone to hot spots than others?  We have a 2.5 year old doodle that has never had an issue but our rescued doodle (just got him last Saturday) was already at the vet this Thursday because of a hot spot.  I didn't know what it was and he wouldn't stop chewing and licking.  We have been applying the spray like recommended but i haven't noticed a whole lot of change.  It is hard to keep him from licking it.  I put a sock on him, but as soon as I leave for work he takes it right off.  Right now he is still too afraid of my husband to allow him to put the sock back on.  Hopefully i can keep a watchful eye on his this weekend and get it cleared up.  At least it hasn't gotten any worse.

Any ideas on how to prevent them in the future?

Took Billy back to the vet this morning................to be able to shave the rest of his fur off the hot spot they have to sedate him. We could not restrain him, I guess the pain was too much.  Poor baby. Well, while he is there he is getting his annual shots and Booster, fecal etc......... another $250.00 and they will call me to pick him up when he is  stable.

Thank goodness for insurance, looks like it will pay for itself the first month after renewal . Hope this is the  end for a while!

How is Billy's hot spot? Gone I hope.
Thank you for asking.  He has dried up and is out of pain. We had a recheck at the vet this morning and he  is doing great.  It looks like we will have to keep him cut very short from here on out, he is in the pool so much and we need to let him dry thoroughly to prevent future hot spots. Guess he will not look too Doodely,  bu we love him anyway!
Wonderful news!
