Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Late last night our standard goldendoodle was quietly playing with a toy while we were interacting and watching TV when he promptly stood up, took a few steps and peed on the carpet.  My husband corrected him mid-stream and took him outside to finish.  DH was devastated.  Gavin is 5.5 months old and has not had an accident for over two months.  He is even trained to ring bells to go out and does so often.  My husband is viewing this as a major set back.  There was no warning, nothing remarkable going on and Gavin was not overly excited.  Is it unusual to have these slip ups?  He is not neutered yet (will be in a month) and his testicles have descended.  I have never caught him marking – in fact he only ever does his business in our back yard – never on walks.  Is this an adolescent thing?  Did he simply just forget his manners?  What do people think?  Thanks in advance.

We've all been there (well many of us).. they are just like children... sometimes they just wait too long. Maybe she was just too involved enjoying her toy and thought she could push it to the limit, and when she got up realized it was just a bit too long.
He's still a puppy, and accidents do happen. Guinness is 10 months, and just last week he had an accident by the door. He had also been playing, and then went to the door to let us know he had to go out, but he just didn't make it. This is extremely unusual for him, and I think it just kind of "took him by surprise". I agree it's a lot like kids who get distracted, and then it's just too late to "make it" to the potty. Unless it continues, it's just one of those "puppy things".
Exact same thing happened with Peri - no accidents for 2 months, then at about 5 1/2 months, big accident. It has not happened since (knock on wood!). Don't worry unless it starts happening again as others say.
All my dogs did that, at least once!!! And watch him if you take him into a new place (like the in-laws). They just love the new smells and can't resist going!! Some of my dogs were worse than others. But your dog isn't even considered potty trained yet. He is still a puppy, even if he is huge. Start putting down those wood/tile floors!!
Thanks everyone for all of your very helpful feedback! I will tell DH that he has to let "Pee-body" off the hook. lol
