Recently, Jane (Jane, Guinness & Murphy) wrote a discussion about "Our Energy."  She talked about how her DH would get her dogs so excited before taking them for a walk that they did not listen. All through her discussion, I was thinking about when I return home and saying to myself, "I do that...yep, that too...uh oh, I do that." My husband has long said that I contribute to the "excitement" level in our house.  Several times he has said that he thinks loud noises are contributing to the dog's energy levels.  The last time he said it, I had to stop singing long enough to ask him what were the loud noises he kept mentioning and all he said was, "I wonder."  Now, I have read tons of dog training books and I know what I am not supposed to be doing, but I just can't help myself.

We are homebodies, my DH and I, and most of the time when I travel, I start wishing I had Dorothy's red shoes that I could click together and get back home faster. One of the first things you see when you walk in my house is a large sign that reads It is good to be home.  My dogs are a big part of this feeling and here is the way I see it. My DH and I are in our 50's. Fudge and Vern might be the last dogs we have....our kids are grown and I don't have to set any examples. When I walk through the door, I am happy to see my dogs and I guess sometimes I do sing loudly or dance a bit, but Fudge and Vern are really the only audience I have that appreciates my dance moves and my renditions of Play that Funky Music White Dog or Sugar, Sugar, Fudgie Wudgie.

Truthfully, is there anyone else in your life that greets you as warmly as your dog does? When you come home, how do you greet your dog??

I just laughed almost to tears reading this!!! Too funny
Thanks, Sue!!
OMD!  I don't really get a chance to say much to Tori when we come home as she does most of the 'talking'...as soon as one of us pulls up in the driveway - or the kids walk up the street from the bus, Tori starts her whine... it's almost like a high pitched whistling cry.  I know that it is someone she knows and loves coming up the driveway as it is SO very different than the bark she does when it's a visitor or stranger!  I keep saying I have to video her - as it is unbelievable.  I used to have to tell my husband not to greet her in a high pitched "Hi puppy" as this used to make her so excited that she'd pee. - lol.  Along with the whining, Tori also adds jumps and spins to her greeting routine!
You really should videotape Tori and her greetings. I bet it is funny.
I'll try this week... but I may then be referred to the group for unruly doodle moms!
Or whipped with one of those Les Pooch brushes :)
Snickers is always so excited to see me or DH when we get home, even if we have been gone 20 minutes! However he was starting to jump and it really was getting to me because 50 lbs of Fur Love coming at you full speed is a bit dangerous! So we started this thing that when we get home we tell him to sit so he can give us a hug, we only tell him sit and try not to acknowledge him at all otherwise, then once he is sitting we come down to his level and he will put his paws around us like in a hug, it seems to calm him down a bit. Snickers is my first dog and I had NO idea he would be SO excited to see me all the time, my cats were never like that-it was more like, oh you are home, that is good and then they would do their own thing.
We get the same greeting if we just go down to the mailbox. It is nice that someone is happy we are home :)
YES!  Here too.. and sometimes when I forget something when I leave for work, and come right back in to get it before I leave, Tori does the same song and dance routine! lol

Glad to know Im not the only one who sings and dances around the house!  Wilson loves to dance with me!!

Vern LOVES to dance too :)
When I open the back door, Bodi is waiting with his tail wagging 100 mph.  I lean over and we give each other a smooch!  Then he "talks" to me until I sit down so he can hop in my lap and clean off my face.  He also gives me a good sniffing to see if I have been with other dogs, to the chiropractor, dentist, etc.  If I come home with other family members he IGNORES them completely until he is done with me!
