I have a 10-week-old goldendoodle and am trying to get him trained. He'a my first dog so I'm new at this. He never goes in his crate or anyplace like the car, couch, bed, etc. He usually goes outside but is still going on the carpet 1-2 times a day. I take him out before and after I feed him and after naps. I'm just wondering how much longer I can expect to be scrubbing. I know he can hold it because he does all night. It seems like he doesn't realize he's not supposed to go inside. Any suggestions to speed up the process? I'd also like to know how old your doodle was when he was fully trained to ONLY go outside. Thanks so much for your help!
We were blessed with a very quick learner---ahh, doodles!
That, and we watched our doodle like a hawk for those first two weeks we had her.
Total of four accidents for us---twice our fault, twice tummy illness, not her fault.
We got her at 4 1/2 months old--and had her trained right away by 5 months!
We kept her in the same room with us all the time and never let her wander out of view...she did not receive the freedom to wander about the house until much much later!
We went outside every 15min, 1/2 hour to 1hr at first---then progressively tacked on more time between outside potty visits....being let out of crate, outside...just drank water or ate food, outside...exciting playtime inside the house, outside...up from a nap, outside....nose to the floor inside the house, outside....no hesitation on our part--outside outside outside! and outside we went!
Always with HUGE praise for doing her business outside--you'd think she won the lotto! LOL!
(we introduced bells AFTER we were confident she understood the inside/outside difference--in order for her to take it to the next level in telling US when she needed to go out)
With the summer on,
it should be much easier to go outside more often.
Trust me, potty training in the winter is worse!
Always the brighter side of things right!? LOL!
GOOD LUCK and be persistent! :)
