Gibbs is almost 5 months old and has his first grooming appointment next Wednesday. My question is how long to you leave your doodle hair? I read something somewhere that recommended that you leave your doodle hair about 1 inch long for the first year.
How long did you leave your doodle hair and what was the determining factor for hair length.

Thanks!

Thanks for all of the responses! I tell Gibbs he looks like an unmade bed, and l love that about the doodles. I think I will have them take a couple of inches off of the body and legs and maybe leave him a little more length on the head so I can enjoy that messy face. The groomer said that she has groomed a couple of doodles in the past, I'm sending pictures and also I printed out instructions for how they are to be cut. They groom our 3 Westie's and do an awesome job, so I am being hopeful that he looks great when he gets home.

We tend to adjust Hanna's coat length based on the season/weather--its longer (4 inches?) now for the cold weather (-10 as I write this) and then we have the groomer keep her shorter in the summer, 1.5 to 2 inches.

It really is personal preference.  We generally have Milo's body shaved to 1 inch and then scissor cut in his head and legs (legs at about 1.5 to 2 inches).  We have loads of snow and he tends to clump, so much longer and it really is difficult to manage.

Adorable !!!

Beautiful, love looking at other chocolate dogs to try and determine what Gibbs will look like as an adult.
