We just got back from party in the park. It's an outdoor concert series the city has every year that rotates from park to park and has live music and food (no fireworks). I thought I would take Maggie and see how she did. It was only 5 minutes from the house so if she hated it we would just leave. My family was there too, so it was a social event and some brief interaction with the nephews before we go on vacation in a week.
Maggie was amazing! She just soaked it up. She didn't seem anxious at all and she met all sorts of new people. She was really the belle of the ball. People were taking her picture and wanted to chat about her. I get it. I also think she's gorgeous and sweet and mellow. Pretty much perfect now. But wow! the attention is kind of overwhelming for me! I mean, I talk to strangers all the time at work. It's kind of required. But in the real world I'm pretty introverted. I think Maggie might already have more friends than I do!
Do you all experience this kind of dog excitement out there in the world?
ps - I'm also really excited about what this means for the future. I really think she might enjoy getting her therapy certification and going to schools and letting the kids read to her, and maybe going into the hospital and making people feel better. Who could possibly feel bad when they look at that sweet face?

Thanks, Nancy.
Such a ham!
More people know my girls than know Mike and I. When we had Sophie and she worked as a therapy dog she loved it and everyone loved her. One day at the hospital we met a lady going through Chemo that just fell in love with her. A couple days later I'm walking down the sidewalk in front of Dick's Sporting Goods and this car comes rolling up beside her and this lady is yelling Sophie is that you, Sophie, Hi Sophie! It was the lady from the hospital. A lot of times when Mike and I are out people will ask us where the girls are. We won't even know who they are, but they will have remembered meeting the girls somewhere. It is a little crazy. I like you, am not a really chatty person when it comes to strangers. Mike on the other hand is the one talking in the elevator.
I would be the one talking to your dog! Is it weird that I recognize dogs better than people? I was at the park one day and I saw this dog. I recognized him. He was the dog of a coworker and I had only ever seen him in pictures, but I knew him. I started looking around for his mom and she was down the trail. He was a liver German shorthair, so not super unique, but I knew the dog.
Maggie is a sweetheart! Picco attracts lots of attention but he is shy around people. He won't walk up to them but he will sit and tolerate them mooning over him. I wanted him to be in the kids reading program (which I think is awesome) but he doesn't have the personality.
Hi,
Maggie is just beautiful! I’m glad she had such a great time.
My Nala demands attention from people. Literally. She wants to meet everyone. I call her Nosy Nala.
one time a lady was parking across the street while I was coming back from a walk with miss Nala. She sat down in the street and stared at this lady intently while she parked, clearly waiting for her to get out. The lady got out staring at Nala and asked, “Do I know this dog?” Lol. Nala has a way of talking with her eyes.
I am on the shy side, so Nala is getting me into all sorts of conversations herself.
Nala loves dogs as well and wants to meet them too.
Chris
I think dogs are so good for us! I go to a lot of events specifically because I can take the dog. Things I wouldn't have any interest in otherwise.
Same here! We live in a heavy tourist area and wherever we go, even if it’s around the block we get stopped to have pictures taken, pets and hugs! I am also pretty introverted myself so it helps me to be more social as well. There have been times where a crowd has formed around Brinley, it’s kind of funny, like she is a four legged celebrity! She eats it up and all the training goes out the window to “sit” pretty as she eventually jumps up for a hug.
You should start offering people her pawtograph! They would love it!
