Our Yeti will not stop licking our friends dog. He licks his ears, back, face, butt and his private areas. Axel has been with us for almost a full day and Yeti still won't stop snifffing and licking. Axel does not like it but seems to be trying to say no in a gentle way (putting his paw up, mouthing him without using teeth, and giving him a gentle growl) but Yeti will NOT let up. Is this a dominance thing? Any way to stop it?

Actually, what Yeti is doing is a submissive behavior. I would gently correct him verbally when he does that, and redirect him.

I wondered if he was being submissive! We played fetch outside a lot and it seemed as if yeti was submitting a lot. He did try to mount him a decent amount but I truly believe he is just so excited to have a dog friend. Ax is just much older and doesn't have the energy to play like Yeti does.

My daughter's dogs lick each other constantly. It drives me a little batty :) I would just keep redirecting Yeti as Karen said.

Winston did that with my son's female dog when they came for Christmas. He licked her obsessively from her eyes to her butt. We let them have a few minutes of time together and then sort of would pull them apart and just keep them both on their leashes apart but in the same room.

I wondered if it was a sign of submission, but at the same time he'd eventually try and mount her and I thought that was dominant behavior. We did pull him off and redirect, and by the end of their visit, Winston wasn't quite as nutty about it all.

We are heading to Puppy class this Saturday and I'm really wondering how he is going to do with it all. He wants to say hello to everybody that comes here or passes by our yard. He loves to lick everybody, that he meets here, or when out.

I do think part of it is stress and him wanting to be submissive and show everybody he's not a threat. I feel like that must mean he's sort of afraid which makes me sad.

His groomer and the vet and techs all love him since he's such a sweetie with his affection.

Oh Kat I can relate :( if he wasn't licking every inch of him he was mounting him. We tried so hard to redirect his behavior he wouldn't even take his bully stick (which is his favorite thing ever). We eventually had to just separate the two (one out for awhile while the other was in his kennel). I didn't want axel to snap on Yeti and really hurt him. A pet store in town has puppy play time every Saturday morning perhaps it's worth taking him there and seeing how he does with the other dogs there. He isn't fixed so I'm wondering if that's the main problem.
