That was my recurring thought. Along with "It's always something" . No one will believe this on the heels of Roger Rabbit.

But here's my tale only this time it was a head. And in case you're squeamish, despite all odds it has a happy ending.

I came home from a few hours at work and took the dogs right out. I went with them since Calla has been digging a lot lately. Soon they were fascinated by something, never a good thing. A poor sparrow had caught it's head in the fence, between two layers of fencing really.

I was screaming like a banshee, yes I know one should be calm. Leave it , here, sit, nothing worked for long. Luca was by far the worst. He had that poor little sparrow in his mouth a couple of times. Trying to capture two dogs, hold them by their collars and get them into the house is nearly impossible. We've done this drill before. Calla I had because she is more compliant/obedient. Then I'd go to get Luca and he'd circle behind me to get to the bird. Luckily he seems to have a poor sense of spatial relationships and it took him a while to find the right spot in the fence so I had time to head him off again. If I don't finish this story it's because the neighbors heard me and have called the men with the nets. Future think I may leave leashes outside.

Finally I got the dogs into the house. Grabbed my camera because It's hard to believe my own tales anymore. I put on heavy duty gloves. I gathered the sparrows wings, one of which was now also caught in the fence. It was easier than I thought it might be to separate the fence. After I set the sparrow down, which looked remarkably uninjured, it flew off. I was so glad since I had visions of a mortally wounded bird that I would have to euthanize. Just a few downy feathers left in the fence. No doubt it is traumatized as I am but the doodles are fine.

OMD, F.....you've had your share of wildlife adventures recently.  I'm so happy you could save the bird.  Here's hoping the neighbors didn't call those guys in the "white coats".  If we don't hear from you in the next couple of days we'll be there to "spring you".
Still free!!
OMD! One more incident with wildlife in your yard, and they're going to give you your own TV show...A NJ version of Wild Kingdom!
That might be fun. I was, accidentally, watching Al Sharpton before. I didn't even know he had a show. I do wonder how some people get TV shows. But I really would not like to be out in the public eye.
Good one Karen!    I'd watch it and I don't usually watch those reality based shows.
F, You are my new hero :)
Aww.

OMD...

Maybe it was Jersey's own "  Sammy The Sparrow"!

This just might be another "clue" from the "Bunny Caper"...and Sammy may have been the one who did the "Jersey Fly By"!

I know...I know...Some might say...Sammy wouldn't be strong enought to lift a rabbit!!  (but that may be why he dropped him on your property)!?

Did you know that Sammy is Very well known for his" Inhuman Jersey Strength"!!

Yes...F... Sammy might have been coming back to the scene of the crime...looking for his prey...when he got caught in the fence.

A Great Big Hurray to Calla and Luca for coming to the rescue...and almost apprehending the culprit!

F. It just might  be possible...that you let a Rabbit Killer Go!?    Lol...

I cannot accept this scenario. This poor sparrow cold barely hold his own body weight so that he wasn't hanging onto the fence with his head only. His little claws were hanging on tightly.
WTD was his head doing in there anyhow?
Ask him? Accident I guess.

Lol...

I understand why you wouldn't be able to readily accept this scenario F.

You may be right....But....Truth Be Told...

Sammy gets his "Super Power" from eating Rabbits!!  It's an inside "Jersey Secret" that not many know.

Without his "Rabbit Fix"...poor Sammy looks just like any other sparrow on the "Jersey Block"!

Once he is able to consume Rabbits....well...he transforms into a kind of "Jersey Super Sparrow"...which is a sight to behold I'm told!

After a hearty meal of Rabbit...the Jersey crowds can be heard yelling far and wide...

Look...Up In The Air...Is It A Bird? Is It A Plane?  No...It's "Sammy The Super Sparrow From Jersey"!!!!

Just a thought F.   Just a thought...
