Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I just happened upon this website and thought what better way to research goldendoodles than with owners of them? I have been a golden retriever owner my whole life. I just painfully lost my second golden retriever last year to cancer (at the tender age of 3 years old). my fiance was also allergic to him but did his best to tolerate because Bodhi was an angel. can anyone help me decide if this is a good dog for me and my fiance? i have read so much about the breed and honestly cannot find many faults...i mean they even made the front page of a magazine with the title "best breed ever" so i am 99% convinced. can anyone tell me pros and cons please? i have never had anything but goldens because they are the most adorable, they love to swim, run, fetch, they are brilliant (BUT THEY SHED UNCONTROLLABLY)...i just want to know that i am making the right decision with a goldendoodle and do they shed very much?

thanks, Jaime

Thanks Adina, and you are right Ned doesn't shed. We had a lab mix that we kept shaved to minimize shedding and we have a Springer Spaniel who sheds some. I don't know how much Clancy sheds as opposed to a full lab or golden but we do have lots of dust bunnies and when we take Clancy in the back of the SUV, the carpet gets full of hairs.
this is the best website ever!!!! thanks so much. honestly i love dogs so much if they shed all day long it wouldnt bother me. kinda like lemons to lemonade, fur to pillows right??? lol. ya'll have given me some great advice and i think im going to adopt. its probably my best option even though i have never done that before and it scares me a bit...my fiance and i are going to be getting married in the spring and combining households so i will be looking at adopting in april or may so i dont have to move the fellow and uproot him. i will be visiting this site daily just to check it out then im going to probably be calling on ya'll to keep your ears and eyes open for me in finding our new baby. thanks everyone for the advice and i CANNOT wait to have another dog in my life!!!!!
Jaime, you can't miss with a Goldendoodle in my opinion. They are absolutely the best ever! My Gracie Doodle is an F1 standard with a wavy fleece coat. Within a litter you can find different coats and some may shed. If you are concerned about shedding and have allergies it would probably be best for you to get an F1b. That is a Goldendoodle bred to a Poodle so the guarantee is better about being hypoallergenic. Goldendoodles are soooooo smart and very easy to train. They are very friendly, lovable, silly and happy! Personally, I would never
pick any other breed of dog! And, Gracie does NOT shed!
