I've had that a couple times with Hanna too...Once a young man and his girlfriend asked "how much for the dog?" luckily I was out of earshot at the time, or believe me, I would have went OFF on the guy! ...Then I always get paranoid someone will try to steal her !!
You should carry business cards with your breeders name and number.
I remember once also when someone offered me money for Kramer.
If he thinks that he can steal a family member away for a price, I wouldn't give him any information either. What would be his price for giving away his dog?
Creepy, sick, and against the stalking laws. I certainly hope he did not look at Enzo's address/tags! UGH!
J: He did not. Once he made me feel so uncomfortable, I made sure Enz was right by my side and kept running interference with him on his petting her. Before hand, he did take a picture of her tho. LOL...But her tag with the info side is always facing in....Her picture is on the opposite side, so if her tag does show in the pic....all he will see is her pic and no info.
I would be afraid he waited and followed me home! I watch to much 48 Hour Mystery's!
I have to admit....I looked over my shoulder quite a few times!!
Like others, people have always commented "how much"....but they are always joking, just as I was in my answer..."Take my first born child first"! But this guy was NOT joking...He made that very clear.
My husband said later, I should have taken a pic of him...just in case! Duh...didn't think of that at the time!
This is an awful and creepy story! I think that people who believe they can just buy someone's dog like that have probably never had a dog, and if they have, I can't imagine they were very good owners or understood that a dog is a family member!
You know, the more I think about this, the more I think that the guy had absolutely no idea how much a doodle costs. I'm sure he was thinking hundreds, not thousands. I wonder what he would have done if you'd said "Well, I paid $2500, so give me $2600 and she's yours."
LOL...You could be right Karen! Although, he did know she was a Doodle, just not what kind. We were at a very high end British car show and have to admit, this guy was dressed better than my husband and I :p If he owned any of the cars on display, he probably wouldn't have blinked.
Many years ago, when I was breeding my Goldens, I had a guy, who was given my name by a Vet, came to look at a litter I had. I didn't have any available, but he wanted to take a look, to possibly get his name ona list for a future litter. I had the pups in playpens in my living room, for him to view. He picked up a pup and sat on my couch. My female Mom, would let anyone hold her babies, but she watched you like a hawk. She went over to the guy and sat down and sort of leaned against his leg, wanting to clean the pup he had. Now, mind you, he had on jeans and a sport shirt. First thing he said was: 'Can you get this dog away from me, she is getting hair all over me" and proceeded to try and push Mom away. I answered with, you KNOW that cute little pup is going to grow up to look just like Mom and shed just as much. With that I reached over, took the pup and thanked him, but said I didn't think one of my pups was right for him. LOL...He went ballastic!!!!! How dare I say that to him! He got so loud, my husband, who was in his office, came out to see what the yelling was about. I explained to him Mr. So and So was just leaving and I didn't think our puppies were a good match for him. Guy continued yelling...My husband was getting aggravated and finally said, FINE....your name is on the list. Hon, what is that next litter going for???? $10,000 per? I laughed and said....Starting at..... The guy was now purple in the face and stormed out! And he actually called a few hrs later to apologize and ask if I would put him on the list. Nope....Not going to happen! Even if he offered the "$10,000" LOL
