I am hoping that someone can remember if we had a discussion about dogs having honey...Oliver loves carrots, cooked that is, and tonight I gave him two of the ones I was making for dinner for us. They are the baby carrots, that I steam and just add a little honey to give it the taste we like. After I gave it to him, I kind of freaked because somewhere in the back of my brain, I think we said something about honey and dogs..He seems fine, infact he wanted more, but I am holding off until I get the experts opinions from here.  Karen if u are there and online, I would love to hear from you, or anyone that has the answer I need..Thanks..Cheryl

Honey is not harmful to dogs in small quantities, from what I have read.

Totally OT, but have you ever tried roasting the baby carrots? You just coat them with a little olive oil and roast them in the oven on a cookie sheet. Fast, easy, and the taste is so sweet and amazing, you won't have to add the honey. Oliver will love them too.

Sounds yummy...

Rosemary thanks for the reply, very interesting article, thanks so much for sending it....

Your welcome...and now I'm hungry for asparagus! ;)

Karen, funny u mention that, I do that all the time with other veggies too. and u are so right, u don't have to add anything to the carrots, they come out sweet.  I make peppers, zucchinni, brussel sprouts, onions (baby) little purple potaoes, and I use some olive oil and balsamic vinegar to roast them..I was just too lazy tonight to do all that, but we love the veggies that way...Thanks Karen

I actually find it easier than steaming, and I'm the laziest cook there is, lol.

Try it with asparagus spears; sprinkle them with Kosher salt after the olive oil. To die for!

I am making roast chicken for dinner tomorrow night, and going to make the asparagus your way..thanks!!

yum!

Honey is not good for babies and apparently puppies, possibly for the same reason. The babies can get botulism from Clostridium botulinum spores that are sometimes found in honey. But a bit of honey, which is high in calories should not harm an adult dog.

thanks, F. It is very little, but glad to know I didn't do anything harmful to him...

I don't think so, I think it is honey and babies.  Steamed carrots would be yummy and a little honey, even better.  You might try agave if you are concerned about honey.
