Hi friends,

I'm completely new to this site as well as new to being a doodle mom. I pick up my puppy tomorrow! I've gathered a few things in advance such as a few toys, food, treats etc but I'm curious as to what you use to brush your doodles? I grabbed a slicker brush, pin brush and a metal comb for the matts.

Are these good tools? Do you have better suggestions? Any advice would be much appreciated!!!

I think that is a good start and would not invest any more until your babies coat starts to develop.  It is easier to buy the correct things once you know the coat type...I have a basket of tools, some I used and some are useless for the coat.  Although you may want to pick up a dematting tool as well.  Happy Puppy Day

Thanks so much!
Welcome to DK.
Welcome to DK! I completely agree with Judy...until you find out exactly what type of coat your newbie will have, and that will literally be months from now, there is no use in spending big bucks on a brush that may or may not be right for your dog's coat. Until use what you have faithfully, getting him acclimated to being brushed/ groomed.
For further down the line, you might want to research Les Pooche /ActiVet brushes. Just recieved mine last week and it is AWESOME!
PS....I got tired in waiting for the US to resume sales and bought it out of the UK
Thanks a lot!! I will definitely look into those brushes later on when he gets bigger!

I agree that you have plenty of tools to work with for the time being. I also wanted to invite you to join the DK Grooming Group where you will find grooming specific discussions and information that you may find helpful now or in the future.

Your baby's adorable! Such an exciting time-enjoy your new family member!

Thanks a lot! I will absolutely check yet that group.

For puppies, any brush is fine, but if they end up with a more difficult coat, the brand can be really important.  For example, there are many slicker brushes out there, but most of them just brush the surface rather than getting down to the skin.   So, whatever you have will be fine and you can adjust as needed. The metal comb will work well.  For toys, I would get only one of different types to see what the dog likes.  I would get a puppy kong, puppy nylabone, ball, rubber chewy toy, and a stuffed toy.
