I went to a meeting of the Marina City Council last night where they were discussing the possibility of leasing land from the former Ft. Ord for a dog training area. A retired couple from Carmel has put a lot of work into planning this training center for service dogs and their people in the Monterey area. It is a 21-acre site with walking trails (Bow Wow Lane), dog parks, arena area, and classrooms for training. There were two FEMA dogs at the meeting, and a room full of dog supporters who wanted this plan to succeed. It is a fifty-year lease which costs the city a fee of $1 a year. Why wouldn't it pass? First phase - dog parks and walking trails. I'll keep you informed of the progress.
