In just a few hours, we will be dog owners. 1 piece of advice on first day?

In 2 hours, we will finally bring home Nicky. What's one piece of advice you wish you were given on your first day?

I was supposed to see the vet today but the ice storm affected us and the vet. We will have to reschedule but will make sure I get ear drops, shown how to pluck ears and cut nails.... I have tried brushing him but he doesn't really like it. I will keep trying get though . He doesn't mind the comb. I've been touching and rubbing his feet and ears and he seems to like it. He's been wonderful. He sleeps, doesn't cry for now than 30 seconds and only had 2 accidents. We brought him to the mall (of course I carried him) because we've been without power for 2 days and needed to warm up and charge some devices ... He was so good with people awwwing at him.

Good news is that we finally got power and can blow out the candles. He is soundly sleeping in his crate with his fave blanket. Such a sweetie. I didn't think I could love a dog this much...
