So Bruno was at the groomer this morning and I got a call that there was an injury and I needed to meet them at my vet's office. Apparently the scissors slipped and sliced his foot pad. They had stopped the bleeding by super gluing the flap of the pad on. Well the vet looked at it and could not do anything because they super glued it in the wrong direction! They put a medication on it and wrapped it and I have to go back in 3 days for a dressing change. He is on an antibiotic and I have a pain med for him should he need it.

What should I be asking the vet? Should I be concerned for long term injury to the pad? I am still in disbelief. There have been 2 other "incidents" but they were very minor - one was razor burn on him and the other a "knick" when he was wiggling. I know things happen but this seems excessive

UPDATE:

Bruno goes for his 3rd bandage change tomorrow. The vet was able to cut away all the super glue etc and expose the wound so that it could heal properly. I had the groomer come with me to the vet so that she could hear how it should have been handled. I hope she heeds the advice given.

We are hoping 1 or 2 more dressing changes then it should not be a problem. They are not expecting any ling term issues.

I am brushing up on my own grooming and have let the groomer know that we will not be utilizing the "free" grooming offered. They have paid all the vet bills with no problem as well.

Will be glad when this is all done.

I am so sorry this happened. I agree that these incidents seem excessive, and I would start looking for a new groomer now.

Although i know this is not your main concern, I'd also be expecting the groomers to pay the vet bills.

I would ask the vet exactly what you asked here; will the pad heal normally, and will there be any long term effects?

I hope Bruno heals quickly and perfectly.

I second everything Karen said and I am so sorry this happened to Bruno.

Thanks, Laurie

Thanks, Karen. The groomer is paying for the bills and I need to make sure they will be paying for the follow up as well. So far, Bruno has been cooperative and not even needed the collar as he is not touching the bandaging. I am mostly concerned with how the injury was handled and their lack of knowledge of how to deal with this. I have been going to these gals for 5 years so after this is said and done I will address how they handled it but we will be looking for a better situation for Bruno.

I am so sorry this happened to your doodle. I hope he heals quickly and with no issues.  I agree with Karen and I too would be looking for a another groomer.  On a side note, neither of my doodles has ever had a burn, nick, cut or even a scrape at our groomer and I always go over them after grooming.  They both are happy to see her so I pretty sure no trauma there thank goodness.

These 2 sisters have been grooming Bruno since a pup. I know injuries happen and there are accidents, but the more I think about this particular one I am most upset about how they handled it. They should have IMMEDIATELY called me and met me at the vert as opposed to trying to deal with this themselves.

In hind site I would love to know if the super glue had worked, would they have ever even told you?

Sorry this happened. This is unacceptable I'd say. I'm not a professional, do all my own grooming, and I've
never harmed my doodles. The fact it's happened multiple times is crazy. Absolutely the groomer needs to
foot the vet bill. Poor Bruno.

I always groom Bruno in between but I think I am going to start doing it all myself. I have never injured Bruno when grooming him.

So sorry to hear this.  I have been doing my own grooming for years and know it can happen that you get a knick or a burn, but as a professional groomer, she should be responsible for this.  I would definitely look for another groomer.  Putting glue on the pad does not sound like the thing she should have done.  Stop the bleeding, but gluing the pad?

Thanks, Lynda. Yes, how they handled the injury incident is what is most upsetting at this point.

It seems to me that there are too many incidents and especially since the one first aid was so WRONG, I would definitely never go back.  I would ask the vet to answer your questions, but I hope the answers are that healing will be complete. The groomer should be footing the vet bill.

One question to ask yourself is, is might your sweet dog be part of the problem?  I mean this kindly. I know when Gordie was a puppy and a huge whirlwind of motion, we used to give him an over-the-counter calming tablet before we took him to be groomed. This helped him and helped the groomer.
