I just got back from Haley's vet.  Went to get Interceptor and was told by the receptionist that it was on back order.  I asked when they expected to get it and at that time the vet had come to the front desk and told me they didn't know, that there was a problem at the facility.  They had put the wrong people pills in the wrong packaging and had been shut down while it was investigated.  Anyway they gave me Heartgard.  Are we to trust Interceptor when it is available again?

Thats terrible.

it is also the only kind of heartworm pill that Trixie seems to be able to tolerate (she got very sick on the other 2 kinds last spring)

what did u end up giving trixie for heartworm meds my rufus only takes interceptor tooo and now that they are on back orders ???

I ended up using Heartguard Plus.  She has had it 4 months so far in a row with no problems.

She does not like the taste of them much...I have to watch her & encourage her to eat it.

In hindsight- I feel like Trixie was having other stomach issues last spring when I was having problems with her getting sick from the heartworm meds....So who knows if they would have made her sick back then...

I hope you can find something that will work for Rufus

Thanks he is on plus
but I feel his tummy doesn't like it to much after I give it to him he gets very loose stool can't wait till interceptor comes back

WOW! Big mistake! I would have to contact the company once they get some out and verify lot numbers and such. How terrible. Thanks for posting!

Depends on who you talk to my vet told me a totally different reason it was closed down who knows!

Here is an article about the hault of production.

Although it really gives us no answers

My vet said the plant was closed so the company could upgrade the facility. There were problems with the human meds it produced, but no problems with the heartworm meds. He said he could not get a straight answer as to when it would open again. All the sales reps were evasive in answering. I hope it does not stay down long.

I just bought a six month supply of Interceptor yesterday. My vet didn't say a word about anything.  Are they safe to use?  Now I am worried.

I don't know.  See Jarka & Monty's discussion

Novartis Warns Of Wrong Tablets In Pet Medicine and follow the link.

It seems worth noting that this article describes issues with Clomicalm, which apparently comes in a bottle.

I don't know how Interceptor is packaged, but Cosmo takes Sentinel, also from Novartis. Sentinel comes in blister packs, with each pill in a separate compartment. I have never noticed any issues with broken or wrong-looking pills in the blister packs.

Interceptor is packaged in blister packs too.
