ZANE - labradoodle

Currently in Almond, NC but can be brought to the Baltimore area if needed.

Age/weight: 8-9 yrs old and this poor guy is currently 38 pounds but still very underweight.

Zane has had a sad neglected life but despite all that, he is sweet and wants to be around people. He's also enjoying the canine company in his foster home.

Zane was is a sorry state when we rescued him from a southern kill shelter. He was unkempt and appeared to have poor muscle development in the rear legs - usually a sign of being crated in a too small crate for too much time.

Zane is getting used to ordinary things like going up stairs and through doors. His foster mom says this about him: "Zane is very sweet - you can do anything to him - pills down his throat, eye ointment in his eyes. He is finally seeking my company which is just thrilling! I know he does not see well (cataracts and slight entropion) and night is worse but he is getting the hang of the "routine". and therefore more comfortable in his environment. He keeps his crate clean and dry even though he is drinking a lot of water. His muscles are getting much better in his hind end (it must be the NC hills!! - and the cosequin!!)

Zane has had no accidents in his crate or inside the house and is learning what "let's go potty" and "wait" means. His foster parents are working with him and he's receptive, but it's obvious that he has had absolutely no time spent on his training.

His coat does not come out well in the photos but the foster mom describes it: " Thought he may have looked like a wire-haired pointing griffon but his hair is definitely not a hard coat - although he does have a definite downy undercoat. His coat is wavy and very soft and the color is "to die (dye) for" - very beige blonde over dark gray.

"What I see is a neglected dog who will thrive with the time and respect due to him and who will come to be a lovely, willing, if not somewhat removed member of a family. Just to see him finally wag his tail was such a joy. And to see him react so warmly with my husband was a joyous surprise!! Where there is a wag - there is much hope!!"

Zane would be such a nice companion for someone who isn't able to deal with the high-energy and high exercise requirements of younger doodles. He would be very good company for an older person. For the first time in his life, apparently, he is learning what it is to be cared for and loved, and dogs are so appreciative of that. I think he will be a very loyal, cozy companion for the right person/people, and I sure hope he finds them soon. In the meantime, he is safe, and getting what he needs. Thanks so much to everyone who was involved in rescuing him, and to his foster family for taking such good care of him.
What a sweet boy! I hope he finds his forever home soon:)
Dogs who have been rescued seem to know they have been rescued, and you can see the gratitude in their eyes every day. It's a very special bond.
Poor thing...I do hope he finds a good home.
He sounds like such a sweet boy. I hope he finds his forever home soon.
