Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi everyone.  I'm new to doodle kisses and this is my first post.  I hope I"m posting this question in the right place.

After a bath, is it better/easier (in terms of working through knots) to comb through fur that's still wet, or wait until it's dry?

I usually put in some cowboy magic and work through it when it's still pretty wet, but it takes me a LONG time to comb the product throughout his fur and work out the knots.  Any advice would be much appreciated!  Thanks!

Winston is a DOLL BABY!

You got some good advice.

I actually don't use a leave in conditioner on the dogs, but I like that idea, if they aren't too greasy.

As for combs or brushes, it will totally depend on Winston's coat.  Wilson's coat is very soft, kind of curly, cottony, and airy.  It does mat fairly easily, although I keep it short now and that helps a ton.  I have found a metal, rotating tooth comb is the best for his coat.  I paid $10 at PetSmart.  I also have a very expensive pin brush, that doesn't work at all!  But Woody's coat is a bit more dense, thick, more curly and more wooly.  The best tool for him is the Les Pooches brush (green).  It goes through his coat and any mats like butter.  I have a mat buster, but don't use it much anymore.  Wilson was too sensitive to it.

haha. doll baby. i like that. Winston's coat may be more similar to Wilson. Winston's is wavy straight and curly all on one doodle body depending on where. he also sheds a litttle especially now which i believe it is seasonal. he also gets a strong doodle body odor very easily! anyways i find poodle combs to work best for Winston though i haven't tried les pooches.

I may have missed it, but how old is Winston?  His coat is similar to Wilson's puppy coat.  His adult coat is more curly, but still soft and cottony (which I love).  As a pup, the pin brush worked great, but I don't think it does a good job with curls, tangles, or mats.  And I also think his coat is too soft for the Les Pooches (just my opinion).  If you like the poodle combs, just stick with them.  Line brushing works well.  I follow the principles, which is to get to the skin.  Thanks for the tip about Cowboy Magic.  I have some for pesky mats but have been apprehensive to use it because it feels so thick and greasy.

I believe Winston is about 3 years old. We rescued him a year ago and he was estimated to be a year or two old by the rescue group. So it's unlikely his coat is changing. His coat is weird though as it's a combo of types and textures. For instance his apricot parti spots are coarser than his cream

Your Wilson's coat may absorb that cowboy magic and become super soft! try it.
btw, cowboy magic doesn't leave Winston's coat greasy at all...just soft and fluffy. Here's another picture that gives a better idea of his coat. he's making faces. :) It's mostly wavy i guess though his tail fur is pretty straight. You can see his parti spots too.

Winston is just as cute as can be! My F1 Goldendoodle Owen has many textures in his coat too... some of it is straight and wispy, some curly, some super thick... it's like a topigraphical map with continents, mountains, lakes and oceans a different texture. Doodles are just a party... in their coats, temperaments, activities, etc!

i agree doodles are parties. your kona and owen are Adorable!!! love kona's coloring! Owen and winston resemble each other. :)
