Not about doodles, but dogs in general. Is there a word that encompasses the type of dog that has a long back and short legs? Dachshunds, corgis, basset hounds, etc. I know the term brachycephalic, and I just learned dolichocephalic for long faces. I think the breed standard for papillons called them a square dog. But I'm having trouble asking google for what I want to know about what the long dogs are called. I feel like there should be a word for that. And I should know what it is.

Thanks! Stacy

Weiner dogs is what we always called them = hahaha.

I only think of weiner dog when I see a dachshund. There are others that are that shape!

Wikipedia has 9 different terms for ear shape! I know there has to be a term for that body type. I'm just missing it.

edit: I cannot spell dachshund unless I'm looking at it.

Yes, there is a word for it, and it's chondrodystrophic. :)

Google "chondrodystrophic dog breeds", and you'll get a list.

They are prone to intervertebral disc disease.

Thank you! I don't know why I couldn't find that. I knew there was a word. It's like when I go into the hardware store and I tell them I need the thingy for the thingy, that makes the thingy work. I hate it when my vocabulary fails me.

I look at all those guys and I think "back problems." I just didn't know what to call them as a group!

Yep. It's one of the reasons I decided against getting a PBGV.

I admit, that's the very first thing I think of when I see them. But if you could tell me what one breed would be the one who didn't have any health problems that would probably be the one I would love best. Well, maybe it would. I do have a type. The papillons were very healthy. If only they didn't feel entitled to potty anywhere they wanted, and they were a little more robust they would be perfect.
