I think we have finally selected a breeder and I just wanted to know if anyone else was nervous that had their dog shipped to them and didn’t get to actually pick it out and interact with it beforehand.

I am really comfortable with the breeder, it’s just………. scary!

I think the dog will do fine on a plane to us, its just – you don’t know what it going to meet you at the airport!

Wanted to know if anyone else shared this feeling?

Thanks!

Yes, it is scary. I got both my dogs from breeders across the country without meeting them or the breeders. I of course can't imagine having different dogs now. The dogs did well on the trip and have no major issues of any kind after several years.

Lauren, my concern would be that you had previously posted that there are allergies in your family and you needed a non-shedding, allergy friendly dog. Although every puppy is different, and sometimes a puppy who doesn't affect your allergies will when he is an adult, I still think it would be a good idea for the allergic family members to spend some time around the puppies and possibly the mother before committing to living with the dog for 12-15 years.

How far away from you is the breeder?

Thanks, I have been around goldendoodles before, and no issues but of course, every dog is different. The breeder is quite far away. I am north they are very south. This breeder does allergy testing/packets when the litter is born and she has said confidently that she has never had an issue with her dogs and allergies unless it was a saliva issue, those are more serious. And I dont have that.

We have been in contact with a few breeders and unfortunatey have got some really bad customer service from them in regards to answering calls or e-mails. We have had great communication thus far with this breeder.

Yes, Tara's breeder did temperament/personality testing on the pups and decide which pup would be suitable for which family based on the testing. I didn't even know which pup would be mine until the last minute. It turned out she made the perfect choice. Tara is an exact fit for our household. I couldn't have made a better choice myself.

If your breeder is experienced and ethical than I think she/he will be able to make the right choice for you.

I was not able to go to see the litter before I picked Riley up but the breeder did a terrific job and her description of Riley was incredibly accurate. I did have several long conversations with her.  During those calls I worked on making a relationship with her so that she would feel a connection and therefore do her very best for me.

When I arrived after a long journey she picked Riley up and said this one is yours!  I too was nervous he wouldn't be good looking or the right personality type for our family.  I worried needlessly.

If your breeder is reputable and experienced then you shouldn't need to worry.  Then again I don't blame you...I was very very worried until I got Riley home and life changed in our home for the better in lots of fantastic ways.  Good luck on your new puppy.

Have you spoken to or do you know other owners who have got puppies from this breeder?  I think you should if you haven't done so already.  This is a family life changing decision with many variables.  The trick is to minimize those variables as much as possible.

Yes spoke to a handful of people who got their dogs from her - and all remarkable reviews. Even on here too.

That sounds good.

I did not meet or pick either of my dogs.  One was shipped and the other I picked up.  No problems either way, and I couldn't imagine life without them.  I wanted non shed and recieved two on the curlier side that do not shed.  They are both from the same breeder and get along wonderfully with no medical issues.  They are 7 and 5 now.

I got my dog, sight unseen, from a breeder in Illinois. (5 yrs. ago). The breeder was wonderful, shipped him from Chicago to Providence (less than an hour from me).  He was fine.  Best little dog in the world.

Congratulations on making the big choice.  We picked out and then picked up our doodle so I can't comment other than lots and lots of dk members have gotten their doods long distance.  I think a reputable breeder will do a good job picking the right doodle for you.

I never got to meet Sophie before I brought her home. I had a terrible flu the week-end I was supposed to come up and pick out my puppy so I had to chose online. Honestly, how do you pick? I picked Sophie becasue she had the darkest chocolate fur and the curliest, which is what I liked, even though her face looked a bit grumpy in her photo,  lol. She's just the best thing ever and I love her to bits. You will be happy with your puppy no matter what, but if you can't meet the puppies just make sure you're clear with the breeder on what you want in temperament.

Good luck!
