I am so shook up I can barely type. We were out on our a.m. walk when suddenly this dog got out of his yard and attacked JD. I had to drop his leash, he was trapped. JD put up a fight but he's handicapped by his ruptured disc, and he fell. The other dog was over him down on the ground, I was screaming and trying to kick the other dog, I don't even know exactly what happened, my brain just shut down and it's a blur, it all happened so fast, but the dog was off of him by the time the owners came out. I was mostly worried about JD's back and didn't even know he was bitten until we got home. He has a puncture wound with a tear under his eye (thank God he missed the eye itself) and a big scrape across the top of his head. We're just back from the ER. They cleaned it and gave me pain meds and antibiotics...just what he needs with his IBD. I may not give him the pain meds, but I have to give him the amoxicillin, which is certain to upset his stomach. And I have to apply warm compresses to the wound under his eye several times a day for a few days so it doesn't scab up too fast. I am so upset I'm shaking. That dog got out of that yard so fast and so easily, they may as well not even have had a fence.

Going to pick up his amoxicillin now. Poor JD.

Thanks, Dee. You know just how I feel.

I was just getting ready for bed and I wanted to check in to see how sweet JD and his mom were doing.....I stinking hate that he is restless.....I am glad the owners did the right thing......I know it sounds silly since I never met you or JD but I feel protective....and I am sad he had to experience anything other then bliss..I know he is going to be fine but call me crazy but I love him and I hate that he fell I hate all of it but am so glad he has you as his mom.

Praying for real that he settles down and that he feels better fast

Thank you Jennifer.

Just now seeing this.  So sorry for both you and JD - hope you're both doing better!!!

Thanks, Deanna!

Good morning Karen. How was JD's night ? I was just reading all the comments from yesterday when I finally came to the one where you said they gave JD tramadol for pain. I have arthritis in my hands and it is very painful at night. I use tramadol and it REALLY helps with the pain and there are no side effects.... well at least for me. I tell you this as a person who has many adverse reactions to many drugs ! So just thought I'd share.

Next on my agenda is you using mace or pepper spray. The thing with those, is that YOU will no matter what, be affected too, no matter how you spray it. My SIL is a Boarder Patrol agent. I watched his video when they sprayed him in training with pepper spray. It was in a very controlled environment, and the guys that were standing next to him to catch him when he went down also got hit. That was with a direct spray to HIS face. I'd hate to see you try to use something like that in a wild and chaotic situation. Could take you down and not even effect the attacking dog. Just another thought.

Hope things are going well today for JD. HUGS ♥

Thanks, Sheila, for the hugs and the info!

Here's hoping that the two of you had a good nights sleep and that today is off to a better start!

Thanks, Sheri.

I hope JD is feeling better soon!

Thanks, Sharon.

Oh my word - what a horror, I hope you both make a full recovery.  Wishing you all the best, and to that owner - wake up.
