I am so shook up I can barely type. We were out on our a.m. walk when suddenly this dog got out of his yard and attacked JD. I had to drop his leash, he was trapped. JD put up a fight but he's handicapped by his ruptured disc, and he fell. The other dog was over him down on the ground, I was screaming and trying to kick the other dog, I don't even know exactly what happened, my brain just shut down and it's a blur, it all happened so fast, but the dog was off of him by the time the owners came out. I was mostly worried about JD's back and didn't even know he was bitten until we got home. He has a puncture wound with a tear under his eye (thank God he missed the eye itself) and a big scrape across the top of his head. We're just back from the ER. They cleaned it and gave me pain meds and antibiotics...just what he needs with his IBD. I may not give him the pain meds, but I have to give him the amoxicillin, which is certain to upset his stomach. And I have to apply warm compresses to the wound under his eye several times a day for a few days so it doesn't scab up too fast. I am so upset I'm shaking. That dog got out of that yard so fast and so easily, they may as well not even have had a fence.

Going to pick up his amoxicillin now. Poor JD.

The fact that once Oscar fell asleep on a trip after you used Rescue Remedy is no proof at all that it works. I am very skeptical that these things work at all. I was going to post something the last time you wrote about this but I let it go. I think the most effective things these sorts of things do is to make mony for the manufacturers.
Sorry to disagree, but I have used Bach Flower Remedies personally and find them beneficial. I was also recommended using the Rescue Remedy on my doodle in stressful situations by my dog trainer. They would be worth a try in my opinion to relieve stress in a dog.
Aside from anecdotal evidence do you know of any scientific evidence that Bach remedies work? I, as a scientifically trained person, have always thought they were expensive placebos but I can always learn something new.

I'm not a big believer in "alternative" medicine. I do use certain herbal products, like valerian root to help me sleep, but I have to have some clinical evidence behind it.

I appreciate the suggestions, though.

I got so upset just reading this - glad to hear Jack is doing better and that the neighbor stepped up to the plate and took responsibility.  I can't imagine how scary that must have been.  If it were me?  I'd be paying the neighbor's vet bill because I would have taken their dog down with my bare hands......at least in my mind I would have.  ♥ to both but extra hugs to Jack.

Thanks, Marnie.

Thinking of Jack and hoping all is well.

Thanks again, Marnie. He's doing fine. :)

Oh Marnie, You can if you believe you can !! LOL :)

I can't believe I am just now seeing this!  I am so sorry Karen, this sounds like a nightmare. I am so very happy that JD is doing okay and that the meds are not hurting him so far.  Thinking of you guys!

Thanks, Ally!

I am so sorry Karen!  It is so scary when this happens, I hope JD recovers quickly.  I know that feeling of being in a dream while this is happening, been there.  Hope your feeling a little better, and I hope those people step up and offer to pay the vet bills.  Hugs!
